r9 390

for the most part this, as long as your power supply can handle it, if you have atleast a 600w psu you will be ok but anything lower you should go to nvidia

also will slightly depend on what games you play, some games just seem to work better with nvidia cards (i.e witcher 3)

You can also get a GTX 480 for around $100. Not the best card ever but from what I've seen it's pretty decent.

The cards I recommend:

PowerColor PCS+

XFX Double Precission

Sapphire Nitro

ASUS and MSI cards are too expensive.

Skip XFX - overheating VRMs (over 100*C IIRC)

MSI is good for a 390, Sapphire is golden, Asus is hot.

That seems only to have happened with the older 7000 and 200 series cards.

I tried to find something on the new 300 series, but the only complaints I could find were to the older cards.

To the new cards I could only find that XFX has "developed a new VRM cooling technology".

XFX ExtremeVRM and Memory cooling

You asked for it, we delivered.

After countless hours of research, development, and testing our engineers have developed all new VRM and Memory cooling technology, reducing temperatures VRM by up to 30' C and GDDR temperatures by 20' C; best in class for the GPU enthusiast.

7xxx is shit, 2xx and up cards are fine.

Tell that to my friend who has a 290 with VRM1 running @ 90-112*C

Hi, what graphics card would you recommend me for gaming? I am going to get an i5-6600K CPU and my budget for the graphics card would be around $350 (if possible less better)

MSI R9 390 Gaming or GTX 970 Gaming, your pick they are both awesome.

The AMD card comes with a backplate, and 8GB of VRAM...it's also a bit faster, but consume quite a bit more power and thus output more heat.

Tell him just once card doesn't justify the entire market.

Tell him that cards are made different than each other

Tell him ambient temperatures, airflow justify GPU temps.

All reviewers get the same results as him, if not worse - ambient is 24*C, 3 intakes 1 exhaust

Right now your just a total XFX hater, XFX 2xx and up are fine but not as well as MSI/Sapphire.

Ask @Salty, @alby800 with their XFX 280X DD who live in AU with 28C ambient temps during the summer.........

MSI were by far the worst 200 series cooler - XFX 280 is a different story - 100W TDP difference.

MSI wasn't, it was Asus as their cards were artifacting a lot and had high VRM difference.

Asus had overclocked the memory on the 280X too far - 6400 when it's rated for 6000

Asus' cooler sucked on AMD because they just took a 780 cooler and put in on top of their AMD card which of course would make the card run very very hot.

That's the case with the 290 and 290x - not so much with the 280 and 270 series
