Good cooler for ocing?

Go to solution Solved by tomas710,

Need a cooler for under $60 that can keep temps reasonable on an oced 4670k

For that money i think a thermalright Macho V2 would be awesome, it cools almost as well as a dual tower heatsink, quiet, and a reasonable price tag

http://www.amazon.com/Thermalright-814256001052-Macho-Rev-B/dp/B00PKJ21LW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1440271652&sr=8-1&keywords=thermalright+macho

A CRYORIG H5 Ultimate would be a solid choice as well

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA4UF30R0134&cm_re=cryorig_h5-_-9SIA4UF30R0134-_-Product

The Phanteks PH-TC14PE 140mm can be as little as 65 bucks with rebate and it's a beast of a cooler. If not the other 2 are excellent as well

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835709001&cm_re=phanteks_ph-tc14pe-_-35-709-001-_-Product

The be quiet! DARK ROCK TF has a nice discount at newegg at the moment, and it's rated for 220W TDP so, overclock away on that thing

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA68V32N4373&cm_re=be_quiet-_-9SIA68V32N4373-_-Product

All this coolers are great and are more than enough to handle your CPU, the Phanteks is the most effective but the others are close behind, and again, with any of them you can overclock the crap out of your CPU. In the end pick based on compatibility, availability, price and aesthetics, but i recomend any of them.

Need a cooler for under $60 that can keep temps reasonable on an oced 4670k

Hyper 212 Evo

why not a 212 evo?

Because OP's budget is far larger than the $30 that the EVO costs and it's an overrated cooler to start with.

why not a 212 evo?

Because its not that good anymore for its price? There are others that do better at the same price. And we're talking under $60. There are many coolers in that range that dumpster the 212.

It's still really good for it's price. But yeah with a $60 budget you can do a lot better. I would get the Phanteks PH-tc14pe for $65 after rebate on newegg. It's 5 extra for a power cooler.

Yeah, but no longer the best. There are several coolers around $30 that do better. But the wave of blind recommendations are real in every budget cooler post.

What are those coolers? I'm not doubting you, it's just out of curiosity.

I know that the Hyper 212 EVO gets recommend left, right and centre because it's got such a MASSIVE reputation.

The Hyper 212 Evo is like Arctic Silver 5, for a long time they were the best at their price point, but the PC industry is not static, they are not the best anymore, and their price no longer justify their purchase. If CM releases a better cooler at the same price point, then we are talking, but for now, it's a cooler that's showing it's age and newer brands like cryorig and be quiet are releasing MUCH better alternatives for the same or lower price. Look at the rating of AS5 at amazon, that's 10 years of reviews, sometimes it takes a while for people to detach from what has become the norm, but i'm tired of the Hyper 212 being recomended all the time, even with a 60$ budget!

How is the installation tho? i have huge hands and Luke's description keeps me away from be quiet! It sucks cause i like the coolers, but idk, the idea of installation being a pain turns me away even from recomending. But again, i am not sure if it's mediocre or plain terrible. I consider cooler master as mediocre, where would you put your cooler?

The pure rock installation was about as bad as the 212s was. Not gonna take you all night with big hands but it wasn't easy with big hands by any means.

If noctua took their patents and made a cheaper all black line up of coolers...they would steal the market. But once they are installed, Be quiet! coolers are awesome, and that's what matters. I think thermalright get's overlooked lately tho, they make REALLY good quality products, i mean, up there with noctua and be quiet!, and a variety of prices and sizes.
