Future Build - Need insight.

Hello fellow's and fella's ( or what ever )

 

I would need some insight on a build i am planning , here is the list of components that would be in the computer  this at this point is the full list.

The two Disk's would be in raid 0 , SSD as main boot for all programs / games - Raid 0 for long therm storage video's data images etc.

 

This computer will be for gaming / video rendering and other applications for work sided.

 

I Also need to setup further cooling , perhaps on top of the computer have another fan system + 2-3 more internally however as i could not find any other build using the mid tower range ( exactly the same tower ) With custom done on it , i am coming here for some advise what would you guys recommend?

 

Are the specs good ? Is the cooling the top for this one? Also what would you change and why?

Well... cost doesn't seem to be much of a problem for you so... I'd pick 4 HDD instead of 2 to make a Raid10 volume instead of Raid0 for long term storage. About the ssd... Personally I'd either prefer 2 or more ssd's in Raid0 for increased performance without increasing cost or an Intel 750 for balls to the wall performance. About the Titan X's... If you're willing to overclock, you'll probably get better performance out of 2x980ti with a good custom cooler.

Personally I would get a Swiftech H220 for the cooling CPU, and instead of a single 1TB SSD I would get 2 512GB SSD's, or even 4 256GB SSD's. Mainly because at that price you don't want to be limited by SATA 3.

 

I also agree with @Lanx about the Intel 750's instead of samsungs SSD's. And I think you would also get more out of the 980Ti's, they can be overclocked further.

Almost forgot. Usually 3SSD's in raid0 will max out what the mobo raid controller can handle in terms of performance. Adding a 4th one (example: 4x 256GB) will mainly add storage instead of performance.

Hello to all.

 

Thank's for the feedback so far - SSD idea I rather have one large SSD - for raid 0 would be the SATA  drives.

 

Regarding the Titan 980TI , as is it is worth more to have the titanx as they are over already , at 1.13 they are better also please consider they are 12GB / each that means 24 - above that it does not actually make any difference.

 

So having 4 Titan 980 TI = 24 , however it would be more for nothing , as two titan x 12GB can as said overclock with that case more fans can be installed how many i do not know yet - This is why i need to have further details of people who made builds in mid tower size.

 

Yes the cost is steep - we are talking CAD 7000-7500 - It is for gaming , but not only that , i will use it as my work station as well , for rendering videos aswell.

 

This is not just a teenager who's got cash to burn.

 

Regarding the cooling  Swiftech H220

 

Found it in the same case that i am looking at

Which the Corsair goes at 

37.7 dbA

FAN RPM

2700 RPM

 

This into account , i am still hesitant into which would be the best - Any other ideas for cooling?

 

Any comments on the ram?

Other components that should perhaps be changed a bit.

I have added two SATA drives totaling 4 drives

Removed the Optical audio as i will simply purchase an external piece for on desk - with my sennheiser's they will work well.

Raid 0 is a bad idea for long term storage. Raid 1+0 (aka Raid 10) will give you the same performance and by adding redundancy will help keep your data safe.

 

About the Titan X's... the 24GB memory argument is only valid in rendering. In gaming, SLI doesn't stack the memory, but instead mirrors the data in memory through all the cards. This means that the 2xTitan X's will have a "memory cap" at 12GB and the 2x980ti's at 6GB (same for 3x and 4x).

 

That said, for gaming 980ti's with custom coolers will be better when overclocked, for rendering probably the Titan X's (because of the extra VRAM).

 

About the fans and AIO coolers, just replace the stock fans with noctua's and you'll be golden.

Well i guess i could do raid 10 , i would go from 24TB to 12TB.

 

Regarding the Overclock that is one thing but having the custom coolers in that small box - would need to be done which is another story - It could be argued that it would work but in future 980TI will be the obsolete and titan X will be the base.

 

As titan 980TI are same size as titanx however the titanx come with fan's on it, What additional cooling would you add?

If you're talking about gaming performance then that's not really a valid argument. Even considering both with reference design coolers, the difference in performance between the 2 of them is around 2-3fps... which means that if one is "obsolete" then so is the other.

 

However, Nvidia didn't authorize custom coolers on Titan X (Gigagbyte G1, Asus Matrix... etc) but they did on the 980ti. And this is the result:

VRAM quantity ≠ performance. You'll have some gains in rendering by having more VRAM, but in gaming the 980ti's increased core speed will give you better performance as I already showed you in this link:

You won't need to push those fans (maxwell architecture is very energy efficient) and even if you did, normally the cards become old and obsolete long before the fans die (as long as they don't come with any factory defect )
