im designing a 4k editing rig for someone, they sent me this http://www.scan.co.uk/3xs/configurator/3xs-i7-x99-5820k-evolve-nle-4k but i thought that this would be better http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/rgmsNG

would you agree? what would you change? the 1.2 TB SSD would that not be better as lots of SATA ones in RAID? and the graphics card would the quardro or the titan X  be better?

Thanks

I think two 980 Tis would be better, it's a little more expensive but it will provide the performance of two Titan Xs.

What about the SSD's he doesnt want to spend much more on graphics cards than that really.

You should decide between a 980 Ti and a Quadro of some sort, there's really no reason to consider the TITAN X.

The PCIe SSD I also don't think is a great use of money, just get two 512GB SATA SSDs, one for the OS and one as a scratch disk. If he's editing 4K footage it'd probably be best to beef up the storage a bit, may triple 4TB drives in RAID 5 to give a bit of redundancy.

Also 16GB of RAM won't be enough. I max out 16GB editing 1080p.

i think th PCIe card is super over kill, i was thinking the same with the SSD's would you be able to work with 4k video fine on there? raid card would need adding too

Motherboard should support RAID 5. No need for RAID card.

You should get 32GB of RAM, 16GB will not be enough for 4K editing.

I don't see the need for a regular ssd if you're going to get a PCI-e ssd. I changed out the hdd choices for two 4tb WD red hdds for raid 0 or 1.

For video editing I heard 1 titan x is better than 2 980 ti's.

I changed the psu to one that would give a lot of room if you ever do want to throw in 2 or more cards and overclock.

I think get rid of the pci-e card get 2 500gbs along with the 4tbs. Also, 32GB of ram. Rest seems pretty good

Well in that case a 980 Ti and the PCI-E SSD is just fine. IMO the Titan X is actually a little weaker than the 980 Ti unless you do a custom watercooling loop.

Edit: Nvm, 12GB of VRAM and all.

RAID 0 the SSDs. The Titan X Hybrid will allow it to increase the clock more as the reference cooler isn't all that great, it's really what limits the card.
