Laptop shuts down while light gaming

Whenever I try and play a game on my laptop such as TF2, Gmod, or Halo CE, it would shutdown randomly. I would assume it would be because it's creating a lot of heat (sometimes goes up to 87C). If anyone can help, that would be great.

Clean it out, it should not get that warm when playing light games

Have you got a laptop cooler? Where is your laptop usually placed during use?

Clean out the air-intake and exhaust of the laptop. (use a compressed air can or something)

Alternatively, if you are comfortable with it, disassemble the laptop, to clean the heatsink properly and change the thermal paste.

 

Make sure the intakes are NOT being blocked by anything, use the laptop on a clean, hard, flat surface.

Depending on the make and model it's either as easy as making pancakes or as difficult as finding snow in hell.

But yes even on a laptop changing thermal paste is a real thing.

Cleaning the heatsinks with compressed air is also a must but it is far more effective if you do it from the inside. Blowing on the fins/vents outside does nothing but push the crud further in.
