M.2 Compatibility

i am looking at upgrading my boot drive to a m.2 ssd, how ever i think i may run out of pci lanes. i have a msi gaming 5 with a 4790k and 2 way sli 970s. The gpus are the only thing plugged into the pci lanes apart from a wireless card which is plugged into the small pci lane (dont know the real name).

Depends on the drive I think. I've got that boards matx little brother abd my m.2 ssd uses sata instead of pcie so no issues there.

If you've got a newer actual pcie m.2 then you might have an issue, but I'm not sure on that.
