So I know a lot of basic parts of computers, and other things, and will I was looking at motherboards for fun, I noticed this http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asrock-motherboard-z97pro3 has a molex connection in the mobo board. Is it needed, does it need to be plugged in, will help the GPU? For example if you run a 750ti that runs of pcie power?

Before Sata was a thing (someone correct me if I am wrong) almost every HDD and CD drive used Molex as a power connector...

Now its less commonly used but still serves a purpose.

Mind you that purpose isn't much...

This is supplying the onboard audio with additional power...  I almost guarantee it.

Edit: upon further research, according to the manual ftp://66.226.78.21/manual/Z97%20Pro3.pdf that is to supplement additional power to the PCI-E slots.  Basically this means this motherboard does not meet ATX standards and doesn't have a good power design.

"

Please connect a 4 pin molex

power cable to this connector

when more than three

graphics cards are installed."

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

I don't see why that board needs additional power for the onboard audio....I mean even high-end premium board doesn't require additional power for their "premium" onboard audio

Likely for legacy support considering there are two PCI slots.

My Maximus vi Formula has it. Supplies addtional power for multiple cards. More of a gaming/overclocking gimmick if you ask me.

Some Asrock boards, notably the H97 Fatal1ty requires it when you add any second card alongside a GPU, as a result we no longer use them at work.
