Hey guys,

I recently got a 120hz monitor, I've been reading that to achieve a nice constant 120hz refresh rate it is advisable to get 120fps+.
I own a GTX670 Power Edition (MSI) card at the moment. I play BF3 a lot and on many of the maps I don't always get 120fps, it some times drops down to the 80's.

My question is:
Should I upgrade my GPU to some thing like the upcoming MSI GTX780 Lightning or the EVGA GTX780, will I notice a big increase in frames?
Or do you guys think its a waste of cash and rather not upgrade at all?

Cheers!

honestly upgrading Isn't that necessary unless you have more then 1 monitor, and are running it at higher then 1080 p. The human eye cannot see that many frames per second and would be a waste of your hard earned money. If you really want to upgrade your graphics card I would wait til the new cards come out....Just my opinion....spend more money on games :P...lol or save...

There isn't any point, humans can't see above roughly 60FPS anyway.

You don't need the 120hz, but if you want too then go for it, I'm just not sure if it's worth all the money for the small increase.

actually linus even did a test on this and he was able to notice the difference between 120 fps and 60 fps when playing

I dont have an opinion on the question but just something i saw and i have always been very doubtful of this whole only able to see 60 fps thing

Explains a lot, I'm used to playing at well over 120-130 fps, and when I have to play at 60, it seems slower and less-smooth. Maybe since I'm used to it my brain perceives it better idk :o

that makes sense the brain seems to work in ways like that, setting itself into a mode that it gets used to, even though it is capable of so much more

it really helps though it seems, when league has an update and goofs up their graphical issues, my normal fps is like 300-400~ and it drops to 60 sometimes when they mess up crap, (usually their forums is filled with complaints)

I really notice a difference when I scroll through the map really fast, seems a lot less smooth lol

Humans don't see in frames. If you suddenly dropped from 120FPS to 60FPS, you'd notice.

120Hz monitors are meant for 3D.

Not necessarily. Many just use it for FPS or twitch games since every frame gives them that much of an edge over the other players.
