First PC Build! (Budget)

Go to solution Solved by DieHörnær,
Okay a few things to end with,
1. The motherboard, I wanted to go with the ASRock H97M Mini ITX but it's out of stock here in Aus. Now, the Gigabyte GA-B85N Mini ITX, PC Part Picker has noted that the BIOS may need to be updated before using it with my choice CPU. Is this a hard thing to do? I have some experience with the BIOS, but never gone about updating it
2. What budget GPU would you recommend?

3. What's the go with pre owned parts, are they a good idea?

1. BIOS update is relatively simple, just google how to update my bios. Download new bios version --> stick on usb --> enter bios and install.

2. If you could up your budget to say $900 or $1000 then it would give you a lot more options. Can't speak for the amd side of things, but you get what you pay for. Might be worth looking into an i5, such as a  i5 4460 as I don't believe you will be overclocking. Here is a quick build I slapped together: http://www.pccasegear.com/sc/hIM

It may even be worth considering a pre-built system like this: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1411&products_id=33018

It comes with Windows and saves on shipping + PCCG warranty support is pretty amazing. It is only a dual core CPU though, which isn't ideal for Photoshop, but it has a gtx 960 and is a mini-itx form factor like your first build. Also it's a good guide for a PC build!

3. Bit hit and miss, considering this is your first build I would maybe avoid them as unless the original buyer provides you with the receipt then you're a bit out of luck when it comes to warranty support. That said I'm sure there are some honest people on gumtree looking to sell some slightly used parts for reasonable money. Build your PC around your needs first, then what's available second.

I apologise for anything wrong - I'm here to learn, this is my first build please be kind :)

1. Budget & Location
Around $650-$700 AUD.
I'm looking to buy everything in Australia, shipping + exchange rates just wont make it worth it to buy overseas.

2. Aim
Photo editing using Photoshop 2014, some Illustrator use and some gaming. By gaming I mean GTA5, FIFA, & Minecraft. I'm more of an occasional gamer so I'm not looking for 4k gaming at high frame rates, just playable on mid settings at 1080p
3. Monitors
One monitor, 1080p.
4. Peripherals
The monitor and a keyboard need to be bought, I'm not including these in the budget though
5. Why are you upgrading?

My laptop is getting a bit outdated.

750ti or R7 series for the GPU

DO NOT USE THAT PSU FOR THAT COMPUTER.

THAT PSU WILL DESTROY EVERYTHING IN THERE AND MAY START A FIRE

The is more urgent than every other build that people want to use a CX PSU for due to that everything is so close and the PSU WILL overheat and fry everything.

Get an SSD.

I would get an APU instead of the CPU due to that it is faster and you can crossfire the APU with an R7 GPU.

Thanks for this! I will definitely look into it - I based mine almost entirely off one I saw built on youtube...

I would go with

A10-7870k

MSI a68h MB...the v2 model

430 watt psu

2133 ram

cheap case

For about the same price as your i3 build it will actually game...580 I think

with the 7870k you get a GREAT cpu cooler....copper base, heatpipes, quite fan and it cools it great.

Great review of the 7870 at Annandtech.
