VRAM and System RAM

I forgot the term of exactly what I was searching for, but it was to do with how the VRAM of the card and system RAM work together.

 

Say I had a card with 6Gb VRAM, but I only had 8Gb system RAM. This would affect my systems performance in game, right? And it would be better off if I had 16Gb of RAM with cards that have high VRAM. I was looking for an article that talks about how VRAM works with RAM during gaming. NOT system RAM working as VRAM, which is all that shows up in google. I was pretty sure I seen an article talking about how VRAM will use up just as much RAM during gaming. Say if you maxed out a game and it did utilize 4Gb of VRAM, it would also take up 4Gb out of 8Gb of RAM only leaving 4Gb for the game and OS and all the other programs running.

Not having enough vram or system ram will lower performance. 

How much is enough will vary depending on the game.

Data is not mirrored between ram and vram. They are usually used for different things.

No, that is not how it works. vRAM and RAM are pretty much entirely separate, and data stored in vRAM does not have to also be stored in system RAM. For instance, I can use 6GB of vRAM on my cards, but still be sitting at below 6GB total RAM usage, depending on what the rest of my system is doing. RAM is for tasks that the CPU handles, and vRAM is for the GPU, they're not really linked in any direct way.

they work independently (but both help a lot in AAA games at max)

 

the 1GB of vram cards are already dead (for gamers at least)

and the 2GB of ram machines are also dead (for gamers at least)

 

the new min is

2GB of vram

4GB of ram

 

but the actual recommendations are

4GB of vram

8GB of ram

 

and you have

6GB of vram

8GB of ram

 

dont worry friend  all will work perfectly fine there
