I would get the 980. Nuff said :P

Nvidia screwed over the 600 and 700 series via drivers so currently the 980 is better > used to be the other way around tho.

Yes, they are. Though also consider the 390X from AMD - same performance, 8 GB of VRAM and maybe cheaper.

i buy them used the 780ti at 280 with backplate 300 or the 980 at 350

I see. The backplate is tempting but the 980 is newer and will likely get better support from allfather Nvidia.

idk because 50$ aren't nothin'

Weird stuff has been going on in games favoring maxwell, so If I had the choice to pick my gpu again , I would go for the newer card. My 780 ti is very good in raw benchmarks, and is not far from an overclocked 980, but it is nowhere near a 980 in newer games like gta, or witcher...

keep in mind that i play on a 1080 60hz monitor and i have an i7 3770k

How big is the difference at 1080p?

 

Look at the bigger price as an investment since you won't have to upgrade as soon, also, the 980 is cooler, quieter, better performing, has better driver support and a little more vram. I think that's worth 50 bucks.
