Hi guys,

I mentioned in my introductory thread that I was building my first 'proper' gaming PC, so I thought it would be good to document it. So, here we go!

Specs:

Intel Core i7 4770K @3.5GHz CPU

Corsair H100i cooler

Gigabyte GA-Z87X-OC-Force Motherboard

G.Skill Trident X 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3-2400MHz RAM

EVGA GeForce GTX 780 with ACX cooler, superclocked GPU

Corsair AX1200i PSU

Fractal Design Define XL R2 (not 100% sure about this - any other suggestions?)

My plan is to dual boot Windows 7 and OS X (when it becomes supported), which is why I have chosen these parts specifically, due to them being the most compatible with OS X.

I'll be starting the actual (I have actually been running most of these parts, bar the cooler on a test bench [a motherboard box], but not in a proper case) build very soon, so stay tuned!

Your PSU is overkill, you will draw max 500-600w, also save some money and buy 1600Mhz RAM

Are you using this for gaming or for editing?

If you are gamer you only need 8gb RAM and 4670k.

I thought you might say that. The thing is, the PSU is something I never want to upgrade, so if I ever go SLI (2 or 3 way), I won't have to worry about it.

I am using it for both gaming and editing, hence the faster RAM, to speed up long rendering sessions even by a tiny bit. Plus, I got the RAM for a really good deal (only £140) so I thought it would be silly to pass it up.

If you did not buy your PSU yet, then 700w PSU can be used in 3-way sli, and scaling aint great for 3-way so i wont recommend doing that.

Also that ram is expensive. :)

Already did :(.

For the speed, it is much cheaper than other RAM from Corsair, etc., at least on Amazon UK.

Just get the Samsung 840 250GB. Great drive and good value. Don't pay more for the pro or evo. You can't tell the difference in real life usage anyway.

I'm pretty sure the standard 840's not going to stay the same price when Evo comes out.

true but why get the lower quality when you can get a better device for a good price?

Because you can save money and not notice any difference in performance.
