WD Completely Disappeared

Go to solution Solved by Captain_WD,

Hello everyone

I was doing a defrag in Defraggler then my WD green all of a sudden disappeared from windows explorer, so I turned off my computer to check all the cables.

After unplugging and plugging the cables for all my hard drives and SSD I turned my computer back on and my WD Green still was not in Diskpart, Create and Format Disk Partitions, or windows explorer.

I felt the drive and it is definitely spinning up.

Is there anything I can do or is the drive dead?

Thanks in advance

Hey there ddswh1pk0s,

When you have a problem recognizing a drive you should always check if it's recognized properly (model and size) in BIOS, Device Manager and Disk Management. You should also check the health of the drive with a diagnostic tool provided by the manufacturer (for the WD Green that would be WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=E8JZmR ). :)
I'm glad you got it resolved!

If you have access to Linux (making a bootable live usb is easy), try that. I often find that Linux finds drives where Windows can't.

Probably a problem with the logic board. Your data is most likely still on the drive. Get in contact with WD and see what they'll do.

Why use defraggler? I always use the stock disk defragmenter

It's completely blown out of proportion. Also if you're the least bit worried about data gathering then you should go live in a cave a 1000Km from the nearest establishment simply because every device and every entity gathers information these days. In the current era privacy is just fallacy and nothing more.
