Considering some retailers are already listing it, you are probably wrong. It is not pointless, it replaces the 750Ti which uses an earlier version of the maxwell architecture .

I would just get a 750 Ti. Most of them don't require a PCI-E power connector so that will help if you're putting it in an OEM PC with a crappy PSU. All of the GTX 950's as far as I know require a single 6-pin.

GM206. Cut down GTX 960. Probably the final Maxwell release until Pascal.

Its most likely a cut down GTX960 on a 128 bit bus with 2gb, wont know fully until it comes out but thats what I have been hearing in the industry
