My sister recently informed me, she would like to have some cloud storage at home. She is semi techie, but I would need to be some what easy to use and compatible with Android as well as Windows. I'm not sure what capacity she was looking for but a few TB's should be good.

Is there a wireless option? I only ask because she has no more ports left on her router. If not, I guess we can get a switch.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

You can access your NAS wirelessly on your home network through your router i'm pretty sure. If there are no other ports and wireless is not an option/too hard to set up then you could buy a LAN card for the pc or buy a switch.

Intel i7 4790k / MSI Z97M / Hyper 212 Evo / MSI Twin Frozr GTX 770 / 16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz / Fractal Design Arc Mini R2 / Corsair CS750M / Samsung 840 Evo 250gb SSD /  WD Blue 1TB

I'd suggest you go for a switch (gigabit).

You could go with a cheap NAS and some drives as long as all you need is basic cloud storage and backup. If you need transcoding or plan to do much work off of it, you'll have to build your own system most likely. Unless you get a very high end consumer NAS.

PC: Ryzen 5 2600 // 16 GB Corsair 3200 // MSI RX 580 8 GB // 500 GB WD Blue M.2 (sata) // Silverstone Raven RVZ03B // Fedora 33

LAPTOP: i7 5700HQ // 16 GB Kingston 1866 // GTX 970M // 250 GB Samsung 850 EVO M.2 // 1 TB HDD // Windows 10

ETC: (2) Dell U2515H (2560x1440) // Corsair K63 // Logitech G603 // FiiO E10 // Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO (250 ohm) // Audio Technica ATH-M60x

It's completely blown out of proportion. Also if you're the least bit worried about data gathering then you should go live in a cave a 1000Km from the nearest establishment simply because every device and every entity gathers information these days. In the current era privacy is just fallacy and nothing more.

Hey there Donut417,

You would need to plug the NAS device on the router in order for it to work. You can either get a switch or consider a self-built NAS with a wireless card on the PCI slot.
From the pre-built ones I could suggest that you look at WD My Cloud and WD My Cloud Mirror. They are very easy to set up and manage and work perfectly fine with both Windows and Android. Here are links with more info:
