Hi guys so i have the Asus Z97-K motherboard that has these specifications.

Intel® Socket 1150 for the 5th/New 4th/4th Generation Core™ i7/Core™ i5/Core™ i3/Pentium®/Celeron® Processors

Supports Intel® 22 nm CPU

Supports Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.0

* The Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 support depends on the CPU types.

Is it worth investing in the latest CPU for gaming on this socket ?

Can you please specify me with the best CPU for this Motherboard?

Thanks

Chris

You can't get the latest CPU with that board anymore, if you had asked a month ago you could but not anymore.

Depending on whether you want hyperthreading or not, the best CPU for that is either the 4790k or 4690k. If its just for gaming, go with the 4690k.

As to whether it is worth it, its not really. Your current 4690 will not bottleneck any games majorly and you wouldn't get any kind of significant increase in performance by upgrading.

Yes, get the best gaming CPU. The i5 4690k. It's worth it.

You could get an i7...buuut....not the "best for gaming". You will likely need to upgrade your other hardware a couple times before you'd really need an i7 for gaming.

i7 4790K - and it is worth it if you still have DDR3 RAM. If you'd have to buy all new maybe sell it and get a Z170 LGA1151 board for Skylake and DDR4 RAM.

Thanks guys for all of your help :) @d3sl91 and @Chasem121 @xTrekStorex

Ok so i decided to upgrade and I found these the ( Intel Core i7 6700K Skylake Desktop Processor ) and the ( Asus Z170 PRO GAMING Skylake USB 3.1 ATX Motherboard ) for an upgrade..

Will my (Cooler Master Seidon 120v ) fit on this motherboard / CPU ?
And will i be able to use this RAM ( 2x 8GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 PC1600 11-11-11-30 Du ) on it ?

no, you'll need to upgrade to DDR4 RAM.

honestly, unless you are looking to use the newer tech PCIe/NVME drives or

special NIC teaming features, your price to performance gain will leave you

feeling a bit took.

the Seidon will fit if the mounting supports the socket - dont know much about the differences yet but Noctua for example is shipping out new mounting kits for free so I guess they differ.

DDR3 is only usable on 2 Z170 boards that I have seen and I dont know if those are released yet. otherwise only DDR3L and DDR4 are supported and I'd go for the latter.

don't bother with skylake.

as you already have a z97 mobo and 16gb of ram, just upgrade to the 4790k and call it a day.

gains on skylake are 5-15% depending on who you ask.

OC is lower out the box as the TIM is junk and you gotta delid the cpu.

If I'm transferring from an AMD FM2+ system does the 6700k become a much more viable option over the 4790k?

depends on the price in your nation.

also if you would rather reuse your DDR3 ram today to save costs or would rather purchase DDR4 ram and save costs in the future.

The price here is between 20~30 USD roughly for RAM and CPU

That part is what is bothering me, about the TIM and the fact that I have to delid the CPU whatever that means

so it's only 20-30 usd to go from 4790k to 6700? then ya i could def do it.

what about the difference between 6700k and 5820k?

it's not that hard to do it to be honest but it technically does void your warrenty.

I wouldnt say you have to delid it. You can. It's not a must to go beyond 4.6-4.7 GHz ;)

I know. I didnt say it was wrong. But still nobody is forced to do it. It is optional. Many people dont care about their CPU running ~90°C..

I do but I also would delid and watercool it. Same goes for OC, no one is forced to do it and they still can just do minor OCs.

x99 right? HUGE DIFFERENCE about almost 2x the price not including MoBo.

If Im going to use a 212 evo to cool 6700k would just replacing the TIM be okay?

That may just be that Noctua's LGA-1150 mounting hardware was specific in some way that it would not work with LGA-1151. I asked Corsair support about my H80i and LGA-1151 and their response was that I didn't need additional hardware.

Most important thing that i didn't mention is that I have an ( Intel Core i5- 4690 3.50GHz 6MB Cache LGA 1150  ) will an upgrade be necessary on this socket, if so what CPU should i get and will i see an improvement ?

There are few LGA-1150 CPUs that are better than that, at least not enough to be worth spending $250–330 on them. Even Skylake with a new motherboard and new memory wouldn't be much better. If you've got a Haswell i5 now, you'll probably be waiting several years for an upgrade that's actually worth paying for.

One niche consideration is that if you plan to do a lot of very hefty video editing or other workstation activities, a Core i7-47xx or Xeon E3 might arguably justify it's price. But your i5 is already awesome for gaming or even amateur video editing.

Think it will be wise to wait, since i want my system for gaming, and any upgrading at the moment is a waist of money as i'm seeing it.

For gaming upgrading from one gen to the next is meaningless, literally, same FPS count. If i had a 3770K and the same GPU i have, i would never notice a difference
