I'm looking to build my first gaming PC.  I know this will be very hard, but I want to run the latest games for a while on my $450 budget. I don't have any source of cash further than that (Waiting to be old enough for job lol)  Any suggestions specs to use?  I don't know where to start so help is greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance

If you can use a Linux based OS or get Windows for free from your school or use the license on whatever computer you use now, it's doable. I'm assuming you're in the US.

If you can save a little and get around 600 check my signature. far superior to anything at the 400$. The 200$ more makes a worlds difference.

Just because you don't care, doesn't mean other others don't. Don't be a self-centered asshole. -Thank You a PSA from the people who do not say random shit on the internet.

Ha, piffle. Watch and learn, O ye of little faith.

more like a gaming build in that price range imo isnt worth even building, im not syaing it cant be done...I just frankly wouldn't reccomend it

He can start small and upgrade as he wishes. Better being able to play some games than barely any or none, even if that means just MMOs, Hearthstone and such.

For those of us with plenty of cash it's easier said than waited for. He's probably pretty eager to begin somewhere whereas you really don't care because you have a nice build of your own, ye of little faith that seems to consume him.

Hey man I'm trying my best  :D  :D

At your budget, this is going to be a stretch. It would require you to invest in a deprecated platform, but just hear me out. It's a lot cheaper than a lot of the systems people here will suggest and will yield much better performance because of what you save.

Core 2 Quad Q6600 - $20

Decent cooler - $20

Decent 775 Motherboard - $40

8GB DDR2 - $30

500W 80+ PSU - $50

1TB HDD - $50

Radeon 7870 - $120~$150

$30 Case

so that's around $390, assuming that this stuff will even be that expensive (odds are you'll find better deals out there). Alongside that if you wanted to invest the money, you could grab a 128GB SSD from Mushkin, Adata or Crucial, which would be around $50-$60.

Overall, this rig will get you decent framerates in modern titles at high settings at 1080p and lower. You won't be pushing more pixels than that with this setup, and you won't be running any filters, but it will run most titles out there pretty well.

For those of you who are being doubters and saying this is a stupid idea, go look at my build log. I'm building almost this exact system right now. RIGHT NOW. and it's excellent.

I'm building a computer that can game competently, and the grand total cost of the system is $210, less than half of OP's budget. I can put together gaming computers for the poorest basement-dweller.

thats my point, more will need to be invested reasonably soon on a build this cheap., thus I dont really see the point since ..no matter whats upgraded there is going to be lost money there in buying a whole new mobo/cpu or gfx card to replace the aging/low end ones
