Look, you can't just connect some app with your TV and it works. No, just no.

You can possibly find some Lightning to HDMI connector for the iPad Air. Not sure if they sell those, nor are they at a reasonable price :P

i think go to the home swipe up the thing (assuming you are using iOS 7+). hit the airplay button and connect to the tv.

you need something for the TV to recieve the AirPlay junk, that's where the Apple TV box thing comes in. And that's $10 more than getting the cable so ima do that anyway.

So I can connect an iPad to a CRT? lol

As far as I know, you can only stream to AirPlay-enabled devices (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204289) unless you're saying some TVs have AirPlay built in, which I don't think there are any TVs that have that.

it needs to be supported and bluetooth compatible.

i don't think you need an apple tv. i have connected my iPad to my raspberry pi.

i think the closest you can get to connecting to a TV with AirPlay is if u had a smart tv and downloaded an app for that. But I don't think there is an app on smart tvs for that.
