Hey there,

I'm planning on building a new system valued around $2500 AUD (+- $2000 USD). I've linked the PCPP link below. Please take a look at it, give me feedback, make suggestions, etc.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I've already sourced a 480GB SSD that I'll use in conjunction with the second 250GB.

Cheers all.

Unless you're going to put a storage HDD in there it's really perfect!

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Ah yeah, I forgot to mention that I've already sourced a 480GB Kingston SSD.

Well the PSU is a bit much for one GPU but you said you plan to add another GPU in the future so it looks good to me!

Yeah- thats why I went for an SLI compatible board :)

Maybe you could get a better PSU, fully modular and with a little more power to spare for any future upgrades.

first i thought that for that money you could get an 5820k instead of that skylake i7 but then i saw that you're talking about austraian dollars

a very strong system. you'll have lots of fun building and gaming on that system :)

Just checked out these components:

What are your thoughts on the upgrade to X99?- It'll end up costing me about $100 more.. not that bad

Well, if you are planning to do some productivity work it would be excelent to go with x99, if you are plain gaming and you already set your mind and did the research about z170 then just go for it. There are some advantages from x99 over z97 but with z170 some of them have already been taken care of.

its pretty good but you are spending too much money for a 6700k rig. Get a 5820k instead.

Also on X99 you really want an AIO so get a H100i instead.

Not sure if you've bought the samsung ssd but avoid the 840 series and get an 850 evo instead. Or even better a samsung sm951 boot drive.

I do some productivity based work- video editing for class, etc. But thats as much as I do- I mostly just play games...

You think so?- Only reason why I'm swaying more towards the Noctua coolers is noise- I've had past issues with pump noise on AIOs.

i had a noctua on my 5820k and it was okay but it did limit the OC to about 1.25v. I agree that it's more quiet tho.

Is the extra $100 worth it though- just for gaming and the occasional dive in Premiere Pro and After Effects? Or is it more of a case of "future proofing" (Can't think of a better word!) my system for the next couple of years?-

both.

roughly speaking going from a 4790k/6700k to a 5820k (OC'd to 4.2-4.5ghz) will give you ~40% more performance.

So editing and rendering times will be 40% lower right now.

For gaming you'll have 40% more headroom to bottleneck games. 5820k is pretty damn future proof.

So it's completely worth the extra cost.

FYI I'm a 5820k owner and I built my friend a 5820k rig too. With your budget def join us x99 ballers. .

You just convinced me... Haha, cheers man! What X99 motherboards do you recommend?

i have a gigabyte x99-ud4, its really good except it only has a m.2 pcie 2x slot.

i build my friend a rig with an asus x99-a, it's got a better m.2 pcie 4x slot so i'd recommand that.

a lot of people like the msi x99a too.

i;d stay away from the x99-deluxe or other high-end boards as they are grossly overpriced.

I was just looking @some benchmarks and I saw that in some games the 5820k performs worse than a 4790k- I'm assuming that the tests are run using a  non-overclocked chip?
