Yesterday, I watched LTT Video in Vessel saying Linus is recommending Windows 10 upgrade

And I decided to go with it because it is recommended and Linus shows data that most of the case either the same or faster than Windows 8.1 with the same hardware. So it will be better right? WRONG!

Turns out I was too naive. New OS always promotes buying new hardware, or in some cases forces people to buy new hardware. I'm using an pretty old ThinkPad E420, though I have been using 7200rpm new harddrive (just bought a few months ago, because old drive has been stuttering) and I do have 6 GB of RAM. The deal breaker is the boot time took very long because I don't use SSD. Don't be fooled, Linus use the newest hardware to test, so it is fine and rather fast and optimize for new hardware, but not the old one. Boot time and start program is slow as hell, almost twice as Windows 8.1. Perhaps it is because of not doing clean install whatsoever, but the idea upgrading to Windows 10 to get faster is just wrong

You've been warned :)

I remember W8 being promoted to bring life back to PCs that had those huge-ass monitors from the naughties. Have you tried clean installing or reinstalling?

I tested Windows 10 vs 7 on my desktop and netbook. Windows 10 sucks up more CPU cycles on idle, causing it to be slightly slower. We're talking <4% once search service is turned off though. Booting is faster on my netbook on 10 but feels slower on my desktop (I measured the time on my netbook but didn't do it for my desktop).

Snip

Uhhh...

How's this Linus's fault?

Also how do new OS's promote buying new hardware? If you haven't upgraded since windows Vista then upgrading your PC along with Windows 10 is a good idea.

Have you installed all your drivers? seems like you might be missing some.

Your laptop is probably slow in the first place due to having the same windows install for some time. You could try doing a clean install.
