Okay so here's what I want. I compete in CS:GO at an intermediate level and I'm going to be upgrading to a 144hz (from 75hz) monitor and my current build can drop below 144fps, but very rarely. Streaming is also something I would be interested in but not my main concern.

My current PC consists of a Athlon X4 750k (4.01 GHz), 8GB ram and a 270.

I know that CS:GO is not going to gain from me upgrading  my GPU so I need a new motherboard + CPU to substantially boost my fps. I also want to say that I very rarely play any other games apart from CS.

I have a budget of around £150 - £170 for the CPU and Motherboard, since I need some money for the monitor.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Dont think that compensates to spend just £150, I would save more and buy some nice i5 + mobo, instead of just buying some i3 + mobo. With 200 I think is already possible.

Cheap little H91 (overclocking enabled) or the cheapest Z97 motherboard and a Pentium G3258 would be a nifty little upgrade from that, which also gives you room to upgrade to an i3/i5/i7 later on when you can afford to.

OR

If you don't mind buying used hardware, you could get a decent i5 and board for that price range.

Just as a general response to everyone, how would a 8350/8320 hold up? They're definitely in my price range, especially if i could find a used one.

For gaming they are not nice. Video editing and streaming they can be.

Probably not that much different in single threaded application/games.

He wants to do streaming and probably video editing I guess.

They both use the same PileDriver core, so unless his games are multithreaded optimized, he probably won't see much of a difference.

He will see an improvement in video editing, but I would go with stronger cores than more of them for gaming so I could get the most out of that. I wouldn't be bothered if my videos took an extra 2 minutes to render lol.

Yeah, but not a Pentium, Pentium + Streaming is really not a nice combo.

Those pentiums overclock really nicely, you'd be surprised what they can do.

Besides that's also why I said he then has the option to upgrade to an i3/i5/i7 later on.
