Hi!

I just recently built a PC (see build here), and my graphics card seems to be getting extremely hot. While playing heavy load games such as Battlefield 4, the card sits around 85c and maxes out at 95c. I really don't feel comfortable with my GPU getting to 95c, as I've heard it's bad for the card in the long term. The card idles at about 50c, which seems hot since my cpu idles at 20c with its stock cooler. I'm planning on getting a AIO water cooler for my CPU and putting the radiator on the front, using the two included fans as intakes. I also bought another fan which will replace the stock rear fan that comes with my case (which will be placed on the top).

So my questions...

Is my GPU too hot?

Will my plan solve the heat issues?

If not, how can I keep my GPU cooler?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I mean i know the reference coolers were supposed to run at 90c... but that's not a reference cooler. You must have shitty airflow or a shitty thermal paste.

50c at idle is way too hot, your gpu must have some issues with fans, thermal paste, what's your fan configuration in the case?

Just the two stock fans that came with my case. I understand that that isn't the best, but if it was so bad, why would the cpu be reported such fantastic idles?

I highly doubt it's the airflow, considering my cpu is getting cooled fantastically with its shitty stock cooler. Could thermal paste really affect its performance?

It can be, i think the best thing you can do is change the GPU if is in warranty or try to change the thermal paste.

It depends if there was WAYYYY  TOOO MUCH or WAYYY NOT ENOUGH. But if its suffocating it will not get good airflow especially since its a card that was designed to run at 90c, its a hot card and without airflow it will get hot regardless of the cooler on it.

I'm getting some new thermal paste Wednesday, so I'll try it then. This card has a lifetime warranty, so technically I have nothing to worry about. Even if it does overheat, XFX will be required to replace the card (one of the reasons I got it). Do you think that watercooling my CPU will cool my GPU since the CPU fan won't be blowing heat onto the card?

Sure can help the temps in the case, just be sure to set the rad as exhaust.

Nah R9 290 is a spicy card. Gunna run hot. Set a custom fan profile with msi afterburner and you will be just fine.
