I cant afford for it to go any higher than it is right now, which is why id love some opinions from people more in the know than I, as well as things i could change around that i overlooked due to inexperience, and I will primarily be gaming on it, but may experiment with livestreaming at some point in the future, hence why i chose a tn panel rather than a true to colour monitor , i dont plan on any professional graphics work

than you dont need an x99 platform - a i7 4790k or the new skylake one is more than enough and you save some money

also a evga gs 650 would be a better power supply choice

and you can go with the phanteks enthoo pro if you can skip the luxe´s features

change that psu to like a 750 or 850 watt evga or corsair one because if u overclock that cpu it will go to like 600w+ for the whole rig

i7 5820K @ 4.4GHz | Evga GTX 980ti Superclocked | MSI X99 Sli Plus | 16GB Crucial Ballistix DDR4 | EVGA 850W Gold+ | 2TB HDD and 250GB SSD

NZXT Phantom 530 | Corsair H100i GTX |

I would actually suggest a skylake build with the 6700k instead if you're not doing any content creation.

The 6700k is more than capable of streaming too, but it's a completely new platform.

When in doubt: C4

i really didnt want to switch out cpu or gpu as i wanted to make sure it was future proofed for a long time, i have switched out the case in the plan and i took advice from another posted above and upped the power supply in preparation of overclocking, is there anything else you would suggest?

a lot of people new to the computer stuff want to spend all their money in an attempt to make the pc "future proof" and last more.

there is no such thing as future proof in this industry and it´s much better to upgrade your pc more frequently than to blow all your money now and expect it to last more - hardware gets outdated really fast

for gaming you dont need more than the 4790k - in fact, x99 can perform worse in games than the i7 4790k.

x99 platform is for high rendering and cpu intensive tasksm, not gaming

get this (skylake version)

cpu: i7 6700k

motherboard: msi z170A gaming 5

16gb of ddr4 memory

you can also get this (haswell version - cheaper but still very viable)

cpu: i7 4790k

motherboard: msi z97 gaming 3

16gb of dd3 memory

the only difference in performance is mainly the change from ddr3 to ddr4. DDr4 is more recent and more expensive, but it doesn´t affect gaming performance

i cant seem to find the 6700k on part picker, but i will definitely look into it

  • there is no such thing as future proofing
  • you don't need x99 for gaming, get a 6600k
  • 8gb for gaming is sufficient
  • get windows 10
  • for gaming, you must get a 1ms 144 hertz monitor imo
  • don't spend too much on a keyboard, mouse, and headset
  • below is a z170 build with the latest skylake i5 cpu
  • added a very fast ssd
  • the build is sli capable
  • added a larger psu to accommodate two 980 ti's in sli in the future
  • the rog swift is superior to the benq monitor as it has gsync
  • left room in the budget for you to pick out your own keyboard, mouse, and headset
  • imo, this build is superior for gaming than your original
