Hi all, Well ill get right to it. I'm planning on going ahead with my first build and I would like some expert opinions or criticisms.

Aim of the build: For heavy gaming and some light video editing. Some of the components I have chosen are rather expensive however, the reasoning behind this is I wanted to future proof the build as much as possible whilst staying within a reasonable budget, I was also going for a Silent build.

Budget: £3000 give or take. May be inclined to go slightly over. (The full price is closer to £3100 since I haven't included peripherals to my Part picker list as they didn't have prices.)

Here's My Part List: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/h2GvGX

1. The CPU cooler and case I chose because aesthetics, silence and I don't trust an AIO cooler one bit and I hear they make lots of noise and are prone to failures some being catastrophic.

2. The Mobo I chose because it is sturdy as hell with a reinforced back-plate better to handle the DRP3 and the two heavy GPUS. Plus its a badass Mobo or so I believe. (My knowledge isnt great in this area.)

3. I chose the two cards in SLI because I wanted to max anything now and in the future on the 1440p monitor RogSwift and if needs be upgrade to a 4K monitor in the future, I chose the PSU because of the two cards, and I plan to hopefully do some overclocking at some point and I didnt want an 860 PSU to get pushed to its limit..

Since This is my first build I just wanted opinions, do you think my list is solid?

will it run all games at max on my monitor?

Are any or all of my choices stupid? :)

It'll easily run any game on that monitor. The only thing I would change is the motherboard, just because while it has a lot of odd bells and whistles, it won't affect anything adversely when gaming or doing anything else for that matter. You could get a Krait, or just any other z97 motherboard for less than half that motherboard, have your dual-SLI support, and it would most likely be absolutely fine.

If your going to build a new PC you should go with a Skylake processor and like motherboard with ddr4

Until DDR4 comes way down in price, I see no problem with what OP has now. He'll never notice the difference between the two, only how many PCIe lanes he has.

DDr 4 prices have come way down 16GB of DDR4 is $135.00 thats the same price DDr3 was last year at this time. and If your going to drop 3k on a rig you might as well get the latest Gen

OH MY GOD.... DAT PIKACHU *__*

Okay, now focus on pcs.

Most likely you'll hear stuff like: "You can get the same performance for a lot less money", which is true, but in your case I don't think you really want that, right?
You seem the kind of guy that just throws money at whatever looks good - just like me.

The build looks really good overall, but I would maybe change a few things:

The case: The Define R5 is a great case, but for two 980Tis and air cooling I would recommend to get a better case in terms of airflow. The Define S, which looks almost the same as the Define R5 is actually a case made for watercooling. That has the nice side effect of beeing very airflow friendly. The only problem: You'll lose some drive cages. But it doesn't seem you need that many drives anyway, so the Define S might be a better option. It's also cheaper. And once you have it I would put a lot of fans in there, just to keep that monster cool.

Color scheme: Both, the R5 and S have windowed side panels. Not sure how much you care about aesthetics but the graphics cards and the motherboard don't really match. The Maximus is mostly red and the Windforce cards have blue LEDs on them. It's not terrible, but something that would bother me.

Would the single 980ti still handle maxed out setting on the 1440p monitor?

yes. But i would highly recommend you dont spend that much money on your pc and expect it to be future proof. It´s much better to upgrade your pc more frequently than to blow all your money now and expect it to last more - the industry doesnt work like that, and hardware gets outdated really fast

But there's no real point if it has no noticeable effect. I guess the extra lanes would be nice for the dual-SLI setup, but... ouch, man, that's a lot for 16GB.

Plus, we have yet to get a card that bottlenecks a PCIe 2 x16 interface, so the SLI isn't going to be an issue anyway.

That Pikachu is way too cute xD

HAHA You got me, I do like to throw money at stuff that looks good lol but number 1 is performance too, thats why I came here.

I get you on the case I was thinking it may be slightly cramped and airflow wouldnt be optimal. I was 50/50 on getting a windowed case and I think I will now lol

If I'm not mistaken thought the gigabyte g1 980ti has 4 different colours you can change the LED to??

I have two GTX 980s G1 Gamings (not the Ti) and I can not change the LEDs.

It would be completly new to me that you could actually change the color.

But wouldn't buying outdated parts now be counterproductive as I would have to upgrade sooner rather than later? I dunno
