I am going to build my first ever computer for gaming. I can spend about 700$ and i wanted to know if it is more worth to get an amd build (cpu fx series and gpu r9 300 series) so you can overclock or if it is more worth to go intel with the i5 cpus and the gtx series. Overal my question is, is it more worth to pay less and then overclock, or pay more and use stock clocking speeds?

Pay more for stock cpu. and overclock the best gpu you can afford is the way to go.

in general you are looking for a core i5 and the best gpu you can get.

basic motherboard with the stuff you need (usb3 header, cpu compatibility), dont bother going for those fancy ones.

Generally at very high end intel+nvidia

at high end intel+AMD or nvidia

at mid end intel+AMD

at low end intel+AMD or nvidia

and at very low end AMD APU

Most everyone on here will recommend you go the Intel/GeForce or Intel/Radeon route and skip the AMD CPUs. You'll be squeezing things quite a bit with that budget but it may still be possible if the LGA1150 stuff starts going on sale with LGA1151 having been released.

I think there's still room for the AMD APUs at the very low-end, it's something worth considering if you don't have much money and don't plan on upgrading in the future.

There you go, plenty of room to expand on the CPU,  Just swap out the motherboard and CPU for a MSI Gaming 3 or 6 and a 4690k or a 4790k

Thx for the quick replies everyone, i am actually from europe and the prices on my country sort of allow me to go with a i5-4460 and a msi r9 380. Here is the link of the build i have in mind: http://imgur.com/XJQn6oI. The prices here are a bit higher and the currency is different but you guys can understand.

Couldn't you get cheaper MBO? H81 boards should be dirt cheap everywhere, if could allow you to get 280X.

The store i am considering buying my parts is pretty much the one with the cheapest prices. I could get one mbo with the h81 chipset for about 50 euros wich would allow me to go for a 280x (Costs about 255 euros in this store) but in their forums they say mbos with h97 chipsets are far better than h81

MBOs don't affect performance, get the cheapest one with all the features you need.
