What is this?

I found it by the dumpster for my apartment complex. 

 

It looks like it's for cleaning but It can be unraveled as well. Has a metal tube in the middle.

Because most filters are designed with a metal mesh core and filter substrate on the exterior.

A filter to what?  Most air filters are flat and corrugated and water filters are usually charcoal based.  That's a spool of yarn; probaby for an industrial-grade sewing machine.

My guess would be a sediment filter or for very coarse material

 

I high doubt it's yarn or anything.

The string is somewhat soft/fluffy on the outside but each strand is very tightly woven so it's not like the crafting sting you usually see.

I hope this sh*t isn't fiberglass sense I touched it a bunch of times. According to this picture, the only one with a metal tube is fiberglass.

Unless your allergic wipe down your hands with a cotton cloth and wash them. I'm sure those filter aren't cheap so nice grab if you have a use for it.

I touched them a few hours ago too. Would my hands tell me if it was fibercloth or not?

Umm some fiberglass insulation is somewhat but i wouldn't go making a bed out of it, it's really itchy.
