The LG 34um67 is capable of going up to 75hz with freesync. I have a gtx 660(the monitor was cheap) and I tried overclocking the monitor to 75hz with the nvidia control panel. The monitor turned on but there was no visible difference in smoothness. I used the included HDMI cable.

According to Linus 75hz is very different from 60hz. Is it me, my gpu, or the cable that is preventing me from getting the visible difference? Or should I just save up and buy an AMD card and use freesync?

EDIT: using a dp cable, still looks exactly the same as 60fps

I would personally go for an amd card. I own a 390x and it rocks. 8gb of videoram is kinda future proof in terms of sub 500$ cards

I am saving for a 390 but is there nothing I can do right now with my current setup? It will take a bit before I can get the card.

I have never used an nvidia card nor owned an ultrawide. My best scrap heap repaired monitor right now isn't even 1080p. However my parents owe me 1k bucks and I will be buying the 1440p curved freesync ultrawide that @ recommended. Strangerbob is LTT's ultrawide/freesync/gsync expert.
