Razer, Bad products? (really?)

Wasabiz

Don't get me wrong here I love my razer products, I've been through so many of their products and ever had a bad experience with them nor have they died on me.

My lachesis has been alive for 4 years and still being used in the office.

Blackwidow 2012 still flawless *according to my brother*

Blackwidow 2013 which I currently am using right now still works fine

Mamba 2012 works exceptionally well as a secondary mouse

Ouroboros besides from the texture smoothing out, the mouse doesn't have a single defect on it.

I'm just here to find out why people is saying razer is such a bad product and if they can please provide some evidence that they or someone they know have a bad experience with them

or is it just that people are bashing the name for the sake of society.

For one, they don't have the best products and they are definitely not the cheapest.

They're not bad though. It's just when something is popular, it tends to be overrated.

I don't think that they are bad but they are over priced for what you get. I have my deathadder for about a year and a half before switching to a Corsair M60 from a friend and I will not go back to it because the mouse has too much plastic and the M60 feels a lot more beefier.

I've been using my Naga Epic for a little over a year now without any hardware issues. I love this thing, although I wish the wireless was easier to use in Linux. Some days it works, other days it doesn't.

Edit: I personally think a lot of hate for Razer and their products stems from their prices, followed by people just bashing the name because others do, then those who have actually owned a Razer product and have had a bad experience with them. The order could be wrong there, but I think those three groups make up the Razer haters.

I've had one bad experience with a Razer mouse, the revered CopperHead, the rubberized coating turned all gooey and sticky, first time a branded mouse did that. Sure, I've had some cheap mouse that turned gooey as well, but in its defense, it WAS cheap. When I pay a certain amount for a product, I'd expect it to last a certain amount of time....but turning gooey after roughly 18 months of use is NOT acceptable considering the price I'd paid for it. With Razer, you pay a premium for a product that you could easily, and less costly, get from Logitech for example. Why are they popular? Simple.....marketing! They market their product well, and all the extras everyone who has bought their product goes into marketing and profit.

As I've said, they make decent enough peripheral devices, but these should not command the premium that they currently do. As for their mechanical KBs, again, decent enough but for the same price, I'd rather look at a CM Trigger, or even Tesoro Durandal Ultimate......each is still cheaper than a BWU 2013 in my neck of the woods. I have a good number of KBs from different makers....Ducky, Filco, Cooler Master and even a Topre.....but there's one brand that I would never consider getting, yep, a Razer.

A thing to consider is this, after owning a mech KB or two, you may think of perhaps swapping out the key caps for that different look, and most enthusiast would use a regular shaped rectangular KB for this. Odd shaped ones don't look nice with custom key caps, they simply don't!

By the logic of one product being average now meaning the entire company makes bad products

Logitech makes bad products because the cord on my G400 broke

Corsair makes bad products because the tracking on my M65 is terrible

Ducky makes bad products because my mx blue zero broke during shipping

Silverstone makes bad products because the plastic tabs on the front fan filter on my PS08 no longer work

Noiseblocker makes bad products because one of my ELoop fans came without the rubber mounting washers

ASUS makes bad products because my 7970 wouldn't overclock

Seagate makes bad products because my Hybrid SSD's failed last week

Do you see where I'm going with this? You can't base your entire opinion on a company based off of one product having an issue.

Dude, I know you've bitten hard into this marketing crap of Razer, doesn't mean I'd have to agree with you, or that I NEED to see your POV, does it? I did NOT say they make crap product, merely just good/decent, IF you think their product is great, well, whoopee doo to you! I Do you see where I'm going with this? Do I have to mention that I have a couple of friend who have Razer products, a mouse and a KB, that crapped out on them? One of them, twice?!!! Do I have to justify myself to you? I repeat, they make decent enough product, but for a lower price, I'd prefer to get a Logitech, for example, I'd rather get G400S than a Razer Deathadder 2013.....cheaper and just as good optical sensor. Must you go around trying to convince everyone how good Razer is? Their marketing department not doing a good enough job for you? Again, it's just MY opinion, why get so worked up? IF you like Razer that much, hey, I'm happy for you.....but don't tell ME what I can't say or think, thank you very much!

I'm sorry that you have 'bitten hard' into the Razer hate culture that's swept the internet and hope one day you can see past it :) thank you very much

Oh? So, my dislike for Razer makes me one one who has 'bitten hard' into the Razer hate culture that's swept the internet', does it really? That's the best you can do? So, my experience plus my friends' make me dislike Razer does not count for anything? Am I supposed to like it, like you obviously do (Geez Louise, talk about self denial...quit being a closet Razer groupie, you've 'outed' yourself here), because I'm supposed to look past these issues? Really? You're going to compensate me and my friends for the defective products? If not, don't even begin to try to convince me otherwise......I'm actually entitled to my opinion, whether you believe that or not....I don't care. If you want to group me together with this 'Razer hate culture that's swept the internet', hey, I'm fine with that as well.

Hell, where's the Razer hate flag and placards? Since I've been grouped together with this Razer hate culture, I might as well be a flag waving, card carryin' and chest tumping Razer Hate club member! (if there's one! :P )

(clears throat) maybe they are just hipsters.

My mouse and keyboard were free with a purchase of a previous desktop my family bought. IMO razer is fair. If there was such a hate club, like nickel back has, razer wouldn't be in the game still, with new products. Someone must like them.

Exactly! Their products are decent enough that peeps buy them, and obviously their marketing department is doing a righteous job, so what if some do not like them? If the majority who use Razer products are happy, good word of mouth recommendation is better than anything the marketing department can think of. As for their product, you can say I'm a more discerning user, I don't mind paying more for other brands, or less for other brands which have better value. I don't like Razer products, but you don't see me trash talking Razer, do you? They make decent products, but due to their premium pricing, they are never in consideration for the peripherals I want to buy. Yes, some can call me cheap if I'd rather go for a G400S rather than a Razer DA 2013. Or, my being foolish if I'd rather buy a much more expensive Topre Realforce to a BWU 2013 'gaming' keyboard.  But hey, it's my philosophy, my money and my prerogative. You may express an opinion on it, recommend something, but don't go getting too full of yourself by thinking your opinion matter more than others, so it's your 'job' to change the minds of others.....THAT, I cannot abide.

Your right, Your entitled to an opinion. But factually Razer products fail alot less than is made out on the internet, I'm also very far from a 'razer groupie' and use a wide variety of different brands for my various pc's and I'm pretty impartial to brand whoring. I'll buy whatever suits my needs best and in some cases that has been razer products, in my current setup it is not.

As for experience, I make a living off of building computers and selling components and peripherals and razer products are not RMA'ed any more than other brands, on top of that the vast majority of my co workers use deathadder's for their home systems and bar one of them having issues with software setup they have all been fine. I'm not saying they don't have issues, I'm just stating that they don't have nearly the amount of issues that has been made out on the internet. But I suppose the more widespread a company is and the more units they sell then the more people around the world are going to get defective products on the occasion, this is the same for every company :)

Why don't you simply say this? Don't try changing the minds or opinions of others, you'd find them fighting back even harder. I don't get why you feel this need to defend Razer, IF a company is THAT good, let the products speak for themselves. They certainly don't need a self-appointed 'rep' to defend them. BTW, it's not that Razer carries a premium price, hence I can't afford it, or bitch about it, no......I go for whatever that I believe to be worthwhile, even if it's a tad expensive.

As for building PC's, no, I don't do it for a living, but I do buy from a wide range of makers and brands, from AMD to NVidia GPU's, from AMD CPU's to Intel CPU's, from a wide range of brands like MSI, Palit, PowerColor, Sapphire, Club 3D, to Corsair to Thermaltake to NXZT....only thing I'm guilty of is being an unabashed Asus ROG mobo fanboy.  Other than that, I have no brand preference for anything else. I'm no expert, but I do own a good number of Cherry Blue KB's from Ducky and Cooler Master, and when I tried out the BWU 2013, the Blue on it actually felt lighter, and the 'click' in terms of both sound and feel, isn't quite as defined or sharp as they are on my Ducky and CM. I'm NOT saying this is necessarily bad, but it doesn't quite jell with my experience of Cherry Blue. The CM Blue has a chalky/scratchy feel, the Ducky has very little of it. But they both have a well-defined tactile feel.....the BWU feels a tad mushier. Someone here had mentioned it, I'd thought it to be, well, all in the poster's mind. This experience changed my mind, there is a difference, whether Razer made this intentionally, I can't say.

I can't really complain about Razer products. My Deathadder is 5 years old ans still working like new.

I purchased the Orochi because it was maybe the best Bluetooth mouse availabe (and still is?) for mobile use.

That is true about the key switches being lighter than other blue switches around the market. If I'm not wrong, they reduced the weight by 5g from 50g of the normal blue switches to being 45g which they have advertised and stated.

I'm waiting to have the DS3 to be released in Australia, I think that will be the 30th of August as I want to try the Ducky people has been praising about.

I should have my aluminum YOTS Cherry Blue before that, as well as a HHKB Pro2 with Topre switch, will be back with pics and such. I didn't know they had intentionally lowered the resistance of the spring from 50g to 45g, that makes it like a clicky Brown, doesn't it? Weird, not bad in any sense, just weird.

Trying Ducky is fine, just like Filco, great mainstream boards both of them. Just do go down the Topre route, I'd gotten a Topre Realforce KB and I love, or rather, my fingers fell in love with the feel of Topre. Hence, my surrendering to the urge for yet another Topre switch KB.....

well my deathadder died but it was definetly my fault I took it a part and did something stupid cuz I wanted to paint it... And my Carcharias died but I don't even know what happened and I had them for about a year... But my razer goliathus mousepad is awesome, best one I've ever used and my blackwidow ultimate 2013 wich I got used is holding on amazing... I think razer is really good, maybe overpriced, looking awesome as hell, popular, pretty good customer support... I would buy more of their products...

Whoa, which KB are you getting? I have the Realforce 103UB-55G, love the heavy feel of the keys. The HHKB Pro2 is only 45G, the KB specialty shop I buy my KBs from is holding it for me, no obligation to buy......just so I can try out the Pro2 with 45G thoughout the board. I told them I must try it out first to see if it suits me......but knowing my flexibility with switches, I strongly believe it's a given. I called up the shop yet again today, was told the YOTS would be out pretty soon, sometime next week......I'm stoked! :D

@ slo_koki - Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder I guess, Razer mech KB's, as well as Logitech G710+ do not quite appeal to me, the shape of the main frame is a real turn off for me. I prefer KB's to be retangular in shape, no fancy tapering and snipped edges. With rectangular KB's, it's easier to add different colored and designed key caps to give it a fresh look. I go to GH and when I see the various KB's which have been modded with paintwork and key caps, I  just want to emulate some. These would not work with 'gaming' keyboards......at least, not w/o a lot of work. Like the guy who redid his BWU with white paint and red LED, now, that's a piece of art.
