Hey, all!

My name is Aidan and today I built my very first system! It went off without a hitch and my only problem comes now. I put an older HDD into my case along with a new SSD. My problem is... When I go into the user folders to get documents and pictures it takes forever to "unlock" and eventually just freezes. Is there any way to unlock the whole drive at once so I can go about my business before wiping the blasted thing? All help is greatly appreciated!

Kind Regards

Aidan Ferguson

What SSD are you using? In most cases they come with software for automatically transferring data from an old drive.

CPU: i5 4670k • Cooler: Corsair H100i • Motherboard: MSI Z87 MPOWER • RAM: Crucial Ballistix Elite 2x 8GB • Storage: Samsung 840 250GB SSD, 2x WD Red 3TB • GPU: EVGA GTX 780 3GB • PSU: Corsair RM750W • Case: Corsair 750D • Mouse: Razer Naga 2012 (I actually use the thing for productivity/media buttons) • Keyboard: Ducky Shine 3 w/ Browns - Green LED • Monitor: Asus PB278Q 27" 2560 x 1440, ASUS PB238Q 23" 1920x1080 • Lighting: 2m NZXT Sleeved Blue LED Strip • pcpartpicker.com/p/3cHfZ

So what do you mean by "unlock" the folder? Is this not just a copy/paste situation for all your documents and media?

No. When I try to access user accounts it needs to unlock the accounts so that I can gain access. This does not happen, however, I left it to do it's thing for several hours and it was stuck in the same place for about two hours and fifty-five minutes of that.

Ahhh, can you not sign in as those users separately then?

As it is a secondary drive the user accounts do not actually exist. The problem is having to wait for each one to be unlocked. If I could just unlock all the locked files quickly  or if not that then at least all at once.

To my knowledge, there isn't a way to do that all at once. Windows has security measures in place for each user account separately.

Shouldn't you have already backed up up your files, THEN have set your primary boot drive to your ssd and then transferred your files over?

I am not sure but I believe an alternate file explorer will get around that security block. Try something like Free Commander http://www.freecommander.com/

Otherwise, and this I am sure of, you can use any live distribution of Linux. Linux will not even see any limitations put on by Windows and will treat the locked folders as ... normal folders.

Use something like Linux Mint, either burn it do a disk or create a bootable USB with it.
