So I'm looking into a new processor, and I'm debating between an i7-4790K and a Xeon E3-1231v3

i7 is faster and can be overclocked, but I've heard Xeons can take a serious beating and is cheaper

My previous processor died from stress and my current one seems to be going slower than it was a while ago for the same reason. I don't want to drop $330 if it's going to start crying halfway through a stream/render.

why do so many good cases only come in black and white

The xeons cannot be OC'd, but can be used with ECC RAM, though outside of a server environment you typically won't get any benefits from ECC.

IMO go for the i7, it will do perfectly fine for streaming and rendering.

Hell, I even beat the shit out of my i5 4690K only using the stock cooler lol, I record videos with fraps on it, render and edit em in premiere pro, might get back into streaming some time down the road as well with xsplit, also tend to mess around on photoshop a bit too xD

Specs: CPU - Intel i7 8700K @ 5GHz | GPU - Gigabyte GTX 970 G1 Gaming | Motherboard - ASUS Strix Z370-G WIFI AC | RAM - XPG Gammix DDR4-3000MHz 32GB (2x16GB) | Main Drive - Samsung 850 Evo 500GB M.2 | Other Drives - 7TB/3 Drives | CPU Cooler - Corsair H100i Pro | Case - Fractal Design Define C Mini TG | Power Supply - EVGA G3 850W

Will you be overclocking at all? I haven't tweaked with overclocking ever since I got my CPU at a stable OC... I probably wouldn't even bother anymore and just get a Xeon next build to be honest.

honestly I don't really care about overclocking, but I plan on gettign a custom water loop some day and would feel like a dipshit for dropping a bunch of money on cooling for stock clock

If you're on a tight budget get the Xeon, if not the 4790k is a better CPU for gaming. Though they're both incredible gaming CPUs. My E3-1231v3 plays every AAA game other than GTA V at an almost constant 99% GPU load on my 970 at 1080p, and GTA V it plays mostly 95% GPU load.
