I'm having an issue with my 6300.  I just put it in to a MSI 970A-GD46 mobo and booted into bios to check everything and it all looked good, detected, Set everything correct etc.

And I get into windows and get 2 windows updates, Get those done and rebooted and tried to install the 2 AMD FX Windows update Hotfixes.  I get an error telling me this hotfix is not applicable to this computer, no matter what i tried i couldn't get it to work, So i checked CPU Z and i saw this and i honestly have no idea what to make of it.  One, I know it should have FX logos, The code name should be Vishera, not to mention the whole CPU Name,  But obviously you can see other details are MIA.  I have no damn clue what to do.  My bios isn't on the brandessnewest Bios, But It is on 1.10 which is the bios that supports Vishera CPU's (couldn't get a new bios anyway, MSI website is down).  Anyone with any ideas? I'd like to get it reading proporly and install the windows FX hotfixes.

I updated the Bios and CPUZ,  I still cannot install the 2 windows FX Hotfixes, It keeps saying this update is not applicable to your computer.    The clock speed is also now 3.8ghz and jumping between 1.12 and 1.412 volts.

Also when i stress the cpu, The cores keep downclocking themselves to 3ghz to 2ghz and at idle Core 0 clocks itself to 1400ghz

If you can't install the hotfixes it means they've already been installed. Microsoft probably just added them to normal updates.

As for the jumping clocks and voltage, that's nothing to worry about. Probably some power saving feature in the BIOS or a power profile in Windows. 100% normal.

If you don't like the power saving features shut them off in the bios.  I was told to do the following for overclocking :

disable AMD Turbo Core Technology
disable APM (Application Power Management)

- both of these can be disabled with the AMD Overdrive software without having to go into the bios but I went into the bios to make sure it was done anyway

disable Cool N Quiet

disable C1E

disable CPU fan control

Ensure that CPU NB, memory or HT Link values are running at default stable values

Again all this was recommended by AMD but it is what others already did on their own to overclock cpus.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

Most modern boards disable all of that automatically when you overclock ;)

Uh my 990FXA-UD3 board from Gigabyte did not and people should learn to check their settings anyway in the bios so no harm in the op doing this.

I've already done this, I didn't expect the cpu swap to have options my old didn't and the bios reset.

I'm still trying to figure out this FX hotfix error "update is not applicable to your computer".

They aren't installed and windows update does not offer them, You have to apply them yourself from the website.
