I'm planning to add a 3rd display to my set-up and wanted to know if I run the third display at 1080p, 60Hz if I would need an active display port adaptor or if I could get away with just buying a passive display port to DVI cable.

Linus's video said something about active display port adaptors but isn't that usually to just run a setup at 2560x1440 resolutions or 1080p at 120Hz.

Thanks in advance,

W-L

Can you be a bit more specific about your current setup? GPU, monitors, connections, etc.

Right now I have a monitor running off of DVI, my other display is on my TV which is connected via HDMI, I wanted to have two computer monitors running again and also use the TV for entertainment. Since I used two connections already I was thinking of using the display port to DVI for the other monitor

The GPU is an ATI 5870.
