Now that i have purchased some of the components to the build already, i would like to know if what ive got with the fit for purpose.

This is my first build and it will be the computer i will bring to university at the start of the semester. The aim for this rig is for it to do everything from Work (writing shit and some light programming), Medium to heavy gaming and it will also be my television (Netfilx, BBC...)

You will do as good with a gigabyte gaming 3 board, save up the rest it really the maximus board gives no gain what so ever.

if you can stretch a little, i suggest going for a 250gb ssd. also, what about an ssd cooler? wow, just wow.

Only thing i'd do is to get a cheaper mobo, no need for an overpriced one that does the same thing as an 80 pound one.

I know the mobo is on the pricey side but i like the features it offers more than the MSI gaming 5 which is £100ish. and for the SSD i didnt have the extra 30/40 for the 240 but i am really only using it for the OS

There is also the gigabyte z97x which offers the same things, most of the stuff on the ROG board would be useless to you (assuming you are an average pc guy). No need to spend more on features you would never touch on.

Buy w/e you want, I just made a suggestion. I won't force you in a choice that I find a better one, the final choice on what will be done is chosen by you :)

do you think the CPU and the GPU offers enough power for what i intend to use it for?

More than enough honestly, also. If you want us to see what you said quote us, because odds are that we don't follow the thread.
