Strange coil whine noise from fan?

sprunk

Hi. I have been only having this issue for the last week or so, though one of my case fans has developed a strange coil whine kind of a sound. I am running it through a fan controller and have noticed it only happens if I try to run it at less than 100%. At full speed it goes away. I have tried running it on a different channel though still the same? Is this just the fan starting to die? Thoughts? Thanks

Some fans need 100% power to opperate that's my idea it's the se noise you get as you mount 2 low speed fan adapter to 1 fan it just not good ? My first idea

Maybe they need some lubrication? I have two case fans that is starting to softly rattle at lower speed than 100%, but they have about 2 years and I will open them soon to put some Light Machine Oil Lub.

Are you running 4 pin fans with a a DC voltage fan controller (3 pin) some 4 pin PWM fans don't like it.

Hmm might be the bearings as suggest you can try oiling them, they might have worn out overtime so they might need replacing if they still make noise even with some new oil.

As I've said many times regarding noisy fans:
