Hello,

I've got a new build today and I am having some problems after getting it built..

These are the specs :-

i7 4790

16 GB Ripjaws X 1600mhz

Gigabyte z97X-gaming 5

Gigabyte Geforce GTX 980

120gb SSD

1TB HDD

Case CM 912 HAF

And I am facing these problems :-

1- There are 2 usb ports infront of the case, the 3.0 is working fine.. the 2.0 one isn't working, did I miss a cable? Where is it exactly? :S

2- The ram in Speccy is detected as "16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 666MHz (9-9-9-24)" .. wasn't it supposed to be like 790-800 ish? So double is 1600?

3- I didn't get the monitor delievered yet so I am using my old VGA monitor.. so I bought a vga->dvi adapter, but it's not working on the gtx 980 dvi or on the motherboard dvi port either..

Thanks :(

1. Did you plug in the right cable

2.You need to enable xmp in the bios to get the advertised speeds, but you don't have a working display.

3. Is your computer posting properly, did you hear any beeps and is your gpu running?

There is a small cable coming from the front panel for the USB and you probably missed it, or just didn't plug it in correctly.

Go into your BIOS and just change the RAM speed to be 1600MHz (or 800MHz if your board doesn't show the DDR)

The DVI Cable that you're using has to have the analog pins as seen here: http://forums.techguy.org/attachments/102657d1176050507/dvicon.gif

vga to dvi, not dvi to vga? and enable xmp to have your ram @ it's rated speed

1- I am quite unsure..  I'll try to check it tomorrow morning

2- Is there a guide on youtube for that? BIOS is dangerous for me :P , and I am working on the VGA port of the intel gpu :[

3- Frankly, it doesn't even show BIOS or any screen before logging into windows, it just stays black then windows, a friend told me it was fast boot option... is it?

The adapter I got has DVI-D Dual-link pattern.. what type shall I get? VGA Monitor, want to plug into GTX 980?

Make sure you bought the right type DVI adapter. There are differences :)

Does your GPU have the analog pins as well? It probably doesn't, considering the GPU certainly isn't made for VGA.

I got an old dell monitor, also VGA. I hooked it up with DVI-A to VGA adapter. But you just have to look up what kind of DVI connector is on your graphics card, and just look up which type you need. Google images helps a lot if you don't know the types.

That's my GPU outputs, and I have the exact same adapter for the left DVI one, could be the adapter defected? (it was really cheap one)

But does your computer beep. A single beep indicates that all your components are fine and you booted properly. The only issue then will be the video out.

Nope.. and you mean by the video out like the graphics card is defected? It got lights on and detected in device manager & nvidia experience :>?

So do I look for DVI-I adapter in meanwhile till the new monitor?

I borrowed a friend's monitor, it's running epicly... high fps on ultra :D

I'll just use it till I get the new monitor delivered (any time still waiting should be tomorrow)

I can see the BIOS logo now when connecting to it, I assume I had integrated card disabled in bios so I could only use it when windows was prompted that's why it was black screen.

As for the usb 2.0, I just cba to open the case (it got screwed for the cover) and I'll just use the 3.0, I barely even use usb ports

Thanks everyone!

Edit: I am having an issue now... I enter BIOS went to ram section, saw XMP and made it enabled, Save & Exit button... the screen went off and the pc stayed on but I couldn't turn it off even with the button, so I turned off the powersupply (got button on back of it), turned it on again.. it said that BIOS had problem with settings that it wasn't compaitable..etc and had to choose reset to default compaitble settings, done it and now I am back, but still 1333mhz, I googled a bit it says that I had bios loop problem, but dunno how to fix it.

Anyideas?
