Bulk Storage Help

Go to solution Solved by TheMcSame,

How would it double the chances?

More drives = higher chance a drive will fail. If you have 1 drive then only one drive can fail, if you have 2 then then there's two drives that can fail so there's a slightly higher chance that a drive will fail.

Anyway, I'd go for whatever provides the best price/GB which is likely a 2TB drive from Toshiba or HGST.

Hey there! (u say the title, u know wat to do)

Okay, I need a hard drive for my bulk storage, and I need at least 2TB. So, which solution would be more useful? (I will be using the / these hard drive/s for 2 years +-)

Should I get 1 2TB hard drive? (1x2) Or. Should I get 2 1TB Hard drives? (2x1)

I don't see why you'd go with 2 separate hdd's that are likely more expensive than just one drive.

2*1tb drives.

Then if one dies you haven't lost all of your data!!!

2 drives would also double the chance of failure.

No and anyway 1/2 the amount of data lost.

No what? 2 drives double the chances of a drive failing.

How would it double the chances? And which would last more? 2 1Tb's or 1 2TB? Needs to last 2+ years (bulk storage is for videos)

There's a probability of any drive failing and the chances of any one drive dying is multiplied by the number or drives in question.

How long either lasts in this case is pretty much just up to chance and negligible though--more-so due to whoever is shipping and handling.

So which would you recommend? 2x1 or 1x2? (I'm also running 1 SSD) I've had this question for nearly a month now. I'm using this old PC while thinking of my hdd solution.

Do you have a reason to go with 2 drives?
