Hey guys, I recently build my first computer, everything is working fine except my CPU temperatures. It's jumping weirdly up and down. When nothing is open it's a round 31-33 but then i e.g open Google Chrome it jumps to 45 in a second and then jumps up and down between 33-45 then Google Chrome is open. I tried to run Prime95 to check that everything is fine, and then i started stresstesting the CPU temperature immediately jumps to around 73.

How i understand it, is that usually the temperature of a CPU slowly rises with load, and not immediately jumps to a high temperature, or is it calculating what the temperature will be with the load?

(I'm used MSI Afterburner and Real temp to check the temperature of my CPU. My CPU is i7-4790k and my CPU-cooler is cooler master tx3)

Thanks in advance :)

Check the CPU utilizations when the temperatures start to jump like that. It seems normal to me but just to make sure it's not something else, check that.

I was under the impression that MSI Afterburner only monitored GPU temperatures but I could be wrong about that.

Otherwise, it seems ok. Not too bad.

cpu load. nothing more than a minor nusiance.

EDIT: could be either the overclock, ambient temp or insufficent cooling

it is normal for temperature to jump instantly under load because your CPU fans probaly use a PWM connector and spin very low RPM when temperature is low.

If you don't  like it you can change to always spin at 100%

Yes it is normal for the cpu core temperatures to instantly rise.  It is a very very small surface area, and the increase in load will immediately heat them up.  There are other sensors, like ones that measure the temp of the IHS, which heat much more slowly due to the larger surface area, but as that IHS heats up, the cores will also slowly heat up more.  That is why it may take a little longer for the cores to reach a constant temp, but it is definitely normal to see them instantly jump 30C or more when going from idle to full load.

hmm.i had similar problem whit an after market cooler who came whit poor termal paste on it..and i change the paste whit something much greater and it seems to be good.  try and change the paste if it the cooler comes whit termal paste pre applyed on it or put a little les or more termal  on it.

Good Luck
