Urgent

Go to solution Solved by Mikealongo,

Finally i bought the 980 strix because they havent any gigabyte one

What do you think about?

In theory, my 700W can handle that?

Hi, first of all im sorry about starting a new topic about (more or less) the same thing, but today is the day!, im going to the store today and i need a final advice.

So I'll start with my specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7-3770 3,4GHz

RAM: 16 GB DDR3-SDRAM

Boot drive: 120 GB SSD

Second Drive: 1,5 TB

Currently GPU: GTX 660 Reference card

PSU: Cougar Power 700W

I usually play AAA Games at 1080p but i will upgrade my monitor to a 1440p

Then the options:

I thought first on buying a g1 970 but the VRam issues makes me less confident with that, and i think that the 970 is not going to reach 60 fps (at least) in every game i play with all the settings maxed out. So my other options are the 980 or the 980 ti (i prefer from gigabyte but if in the store only have frome msi...)

I know its stupid but i want a nvidia grafic card because of the shield and because of the shadowplay wich i use a lot to get fun with my ftiends.

So i want you to say me if my PSU can handle the 980ti and what of that 3 cards you'll get to play 1080p now and 1440p in January.

Thanks for all.

Quoting a review for this PSU unit

"The main problem with this power supply is voltage regulation. Starting at 560 W, voltages got outside their allowed range, what can make your computer behave erratically. We tested two samples, and both presented the same problem. Therefore, we can’t recommend this unit."

You need a new power supply, this is shit.

why such an expensive CPU but cheaper GPU?

Get a i5 and a newer GPU

Wait so your getting a Pre-built ? You should just make it yourself. It will be generally cheaper.

No no, i have that pc since 2 years now, the pc was a prebuilt pc i bought, now i want to upgrade just de GPU xD

Sorry for my bad explanation

If youre only going to be gaming, do yourself a favor and get an i5, and use that money to get the 970, i can vouch for it, if youre not going to be playing at 1440p or 4K Vram wont be an issue, and it can max out MOST new games with over 60fps :)

But im not going to buy any CPU, i alrredy own the i7-3770, i just want to buy a GPU xD.

And i want to play 1080p but i also want to be able to play 1440p with a reasonable framerate in the near future :)

Well, the 970 can easily manage 1440p with 40fps + maxed out on most new games. However if youre looking for EVEN better framerates id consider the 390 which is the same price as the 970, however im not sure how it performs at 1440p.

I consider the AMDs but i prefer Nvidia because of shadowplay (To record my games and enjoy with my friends without affecting the performance) and the shield that i will buy :)

Ahh, well then i would probably consider getting the 980, or if you want overkill the 980ti, but thats more of a 4K card.

Okay a quick google search shows it isn't. Judging by the lack of reviews I would recommend a change, try to use a decent 600W power supply as the 980 ti is efficient enough. I'd recommend this power supply.

Or this if you want SLI in the future

If you told me that the 970 will be enough to play 1440p i trust you :).

I dont want to spend more money that i need, because im a student and im not rich xD. But i dont want to spend money if it dont worth it xD.

So theres why im considering the three options, the 970 980 and 980ti :)

I recommend you shorten this period as much as possible, this PSU sounds nasty and I won't be keeping it more than 3 months even if the 980Ti was light on it.

Dude, that PSU can kill your computer at any moment, if you get a high powered GPU that might just be the thing that makes the PSU go wild with the power in your computer... and then everything is ruined.

I think i can go with a 970 or 980 and buy somwthing like a Corsair CX750

You won't have any issues playing at 1440p with a GTX 970.  I did it with a single card and then SLI (FTW+ from EVGA) since launch without issues.  If you told me you are going to go 4k, my answer would be 970 sli minimum or even 980 at that point.  Right now one of my rigs is an over the top X99 with 980ti's and my secondary rig (more for my projector and such, is running a i5 4590 with a 970 SSC) and it runs at 1080p and 1440p just fine.  I can't say I have hit the full vram limit on the 970, but have come close.  It is much easier to do that on the 980's and such with heavy hitting games and different resolutions.  As far as power supplies, if you are looking to replace, look at EVGA (G2/P2/GS), Cooler Master V series, Seasonic X series.  I don't recommend Corsair to my customers, too many rma requests these days and price points are just way out of wack compared to better and more quality power supplies, especially when they are on promotion almost all the time.  I tend to build with EVGA P2 and Seasonic Plat series.

Hope this helps.
