My AMD FX 6300 was at 76 degrees C and I am using a stock cooler. I haven't installed windows or anything and in the BIOS the temperature was at 76 degrees. I took my heatsink off the CPU once and did not replace the thermal paste, it this the cause and should I buy an after market cooler?

Also people were saying that my motherboard was build for older CPU''s and this may be why it is hot.

well you most likely ruined the paste removing the cooler. there is no reason that cpu should be near that in BIOS

CPU: INTEL Core i7 4790k @ 4.7Ghz - Cooling: NZXT Kraken X61 - Mobo: Gigabyte Z97X SLI - RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ares 2400mhz - GPU: AMD Sapphire Nitro R9 Fury 4G - Case: Phanteks P350X - PSU: EVGA 750GQ - Storage: WD Black 1TB - Fans: 2x Noctua NF-P14s (Push) / 2x Corsair AF140 (Pull) / 3x Corsair AF120 (Exhaust) - Keyboard: Corsair K70 Cherry MX Red - Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma

Bit of an AMD fan I suppose. I don't bias my replies to anything however, I just prefer AMD and their products. Buy whatever the H*CK you want.

I am using the ASRock 980DE3/U3S3 Motherboard

Your motherboard is fine! I would always suggest to get an aftermarket CPU cooler for any AMD processor since it always gets hot but especially since you can overclock that CPU :) Get a be quiet! Pure Rock or if thats not available, get a Cooler Master Hyper 212X (or 212 EVO).
