860k, FX 6300, i3 4130

Go to solution Solved by don_svetlio,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00HA3444I/?tag=pcp0f-21 like this one? Yes i know that i5 is much better then i3, but so is R9 380 and 750Ti, isn't? Is it worth getting a i5 instead of a i3, but then cheaping out on the GPU?

Getting the i5 + the 270 would be the best of both worlds

Cheaping out on the GPU is a bit of a waste as you will have to dump it when you upgrade and games are more reliant on the GPU. Just grab the i5 and the 270X and you are good to go :)

And what is your rig?

I'ts on my profile.

FX-6300 @3.8MHz

club 3d r9 270 '14 series (core @1115 and memory @1515)

G.Skill 2x4GB 1600MHz ram

I am running it at 1680x1050, but I tried it with vsr @1920x1200 and I got 30-35 fps (witcher 3)

Ohh, well he had it in his signature. Yea i won't be running games on 1080p any time soon either, i have a 4:3 monitor. So my goto res is 1280x960 atm. So i can expect higher frame-rates then 1080p benchmarks, right?

Much better! When I changed my resolution from 1680x1050 to 1920x1200 with vsr I got 15-20 lesser frames (depends per game) With that resolution you can run pretty much everything on ultra with the r9 270.

EDIT: If you want I can do some test with games like gta 5 or battlefield 4 at that resolution to see the fps?

Okay, so I'd suggest the power color as the MSI cooler from this gen is very poor. Also, I ran Unigine Heaven for a good 10 mins or so and then benched it.

Thermals time!

Temps were as follows

GPU core = 68*C max

GPU VRM1 = 72*C max

GPU VRM2 = 28*C max

Fan speed = 35% (barely audible)

Case airflow = poor

The 280 doesn't really overheat so the 270X should be even better. I'd say you are good to go :)

EDIT: here are the results

I run gta 5 at high/ultra settings with 60-70 fps (sometimes it drops to 50 when there are alot of people but that is probably because of the cpu)

Really? Only 30 fps on the witcher 3 with ultra settings? I have ~45 fps with the witcher 3 on ultra (hairworks off) and you have a r9 280. Weird

I meant a solid 30 as in the lowest the game went on high. I also do my testing in Novigrad as that is the most intense area. But it might be cause of the game's recent patch that screwed up performance a bit, at least for me and some others (including staff at PCgamer)

Novigrad is always different for me. When I just start playing and go to novigrad the fps can go as low as 28. But strangely enough, the longer I play the better the fps gets. So if I go to novigrad after 1 hour of gametime the fps is much better :/

When you initially boot up it has to stream in all the data around you so it's usually laggier for the first 10-ish mins.

Btw, what are your temps usually? I'd like to compare to the ones I posted above.
