well I've had a shit evening, was building my mate a pc from parts of my old rig and dig out my test bench psu.. after plugging it in things caught fire..

it burned out the mobo and psu.

I'm hoping nothing else was damaged but only a new mobo will tell.

this is the chip the one labeled pq28

I think it maybe a mosfet, any idea if it is and if I can get a replacement just so I can solder it on and flog the board as spares.

ultimately I'm more pissed off as I just had to spend £160 on new mobo and psu for a rig I was selling!!!!

That's and SMD style voltage regulator, while I guess you can give it a try replacing the component it would be a good idea to RMA it or open up a warranty claim.

Its a 4 year old mobo don't know what Asus warranty time is but it's a 1155 z68 board

Its a 4 year old mobo don't know what Asus warranty time is but it's a 1155 z68 board

 

I think it was only 3 year warranties on their basic or general motherboards and 5 for something the the ROG and Military style ones, i could be wrong though.

yeah i just checked its 3 years! 

just super annoyed lol, my mate was giving me £400 for cpu mobo, psu and gpu. i bought all my new stuff with the money and now i have to spend £160 in a new mobo and psu.. well i say have to.. i already have lol! first pc fire in 22 years!!
