I'm looking for a reference cooler for my Radeon HD 6970, it is a reference PCB but the cooler on it doesn't sit properly and temperatures suffer because of it.

Does anybody know where I can get a reference design blower cooler for a HD 6970?

I would like the reference cooler because the the heat is exhausted out the back.

I also like the look of them.

Cheers,

Jacob.

I have looked at aftermarket ones but unless I go water (Which I cannot afford at the moment) There are none that I can find that are rear exhaust coolers.

I know. The temperatures for everything else, Including my other 6970 only get to ~55°C. The other 6970 with the Cooler problem, sits around 70°C idle and will easily hit 100°C before throttling. I have applied new thermal paste, re-seated the cooler and burned in the thermal paste. before it was idling at 95°C. The blower design is just personal preference when it comes to this. I have got in contact with a couple of manufacturers to see if they have one I could buy off them. Just waiting on a reply. until then its no Crossfire for me. This is a long shot but if this doesn't work then I will have to get the arctic cooler Accelero Extreme 3. It just looks awful I've even searched to see if anybody has a dead 6950 or 6970 that I could buy and use the cooler off of. at no avail.

It is not a faulty sensor the card get bloody hot.

Thanks for the response though man :)

you could buy a cheap 6950 and use it's heatsink for the 6970.the heatsinks are identical for the two if I'm not mistaken.and you could maybe even slap the 6970 heatsink onto the 6950, since it'll naturally generate less heat, and run it in trifire with your 6970's

aside from the accelero extreme you could try for the accelero hybrid watercooling one

it's on sale and only 99.99 right now.

You could try this all in one GPU liquid cooler if you have the money. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=207_160_45&products_id=20721
I considered that, but I have 2 6970's and I don't have the space to do one for each. plus 2 of them is $250. so price is still an issue.

I was looking at getting a 6950, I don't want to take a card that works and take the cooler off it. If I must I would rather buy a dead 6970/6950 and take the cooler off that. However nobody seems to sell their dead cards. Maybe somebody here has a dead 6950/6970 they want to get rid of :P :)

you don't need 2 of them.

you said only one of them has bad temps due to bad contact.so only buy a single one.I linked you one and it only costs $99

I am aware but I don't want to have 2 cards that look that different. I'm being very picky I understand and I will do what I have to if I can't get a reference cooler. I'm just waiting for replies before I make up my mind. Thanks for the links though. I do also intend once I have the funds to do a full water loop. So I don't want to spend to much money on this. Worst comes to worst I make do with one card until i can afford it. :-D
