My programs often stop responding, then I have to Ctrl + Shift + Escape and end them because I feel like they will never start working again. I tried waiting a few times, it just felt like it was never going to respond again. Also the Computer takes forever to come on. I'm already waiting to solve that problem by installing the free windows 10 I get onto an ssd when it is released.

I get that this computer is 6 years old. Would buying an AIO cooler and overclocking do much of anything? I see that most of the cpus today are 3.5 to 4 Ghz. What do you guys suggest to bring new life into my pc? Is it worth

This is the computer:

  • CPU I7 920 @ 2.6 Ghz
  • RAM 12GB of Ram
  • R9 290
  • Storage
    1TB HDD
  • Display(s)
LG 29" Ultra Widescreen, 2 24 inch monitors and 1 40 inch television
  • Operating System
    Windows 8.1

Have you tried to defrag and getting rid of some files? I know defragging helps a lot with speed

NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER STOP LEARNING. DONT LET THE PAST HURT YOU. YOU CAN DOOOOO IT

@Sdot i suggest you reinstall the OS and drivers.

a defrag can help, and using msconfig.exe can help cut out the startup programs you don't need.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

I have not, my plan is just to install windows 10 on an ssd that I have over here in my drawer. then I will format the 1tb HDD and start fresh.

sounds like a solid plan.
