Building my son a rig, completely together, but after setting up everything in the bios, save and restart, the peripherals die.  They work fine in the bios, I have them plugged into USB3 plugs, and have switched plugs multiple times.  If I disable XHCI in the bios, then they continue to work after launch, but doesn't this disable usb3.0 speeds?  I have Intel® USB 3.0 Host Controller Switch Driver (iusb3hcs), but if I try to manually install the intel or asus usb3.0 drivers, they tell me my hardware is not compatible...I'd like to have all the 3.0 connections functioning at that speed so if there is a way to get XHCI enabled and get passed the bios with a functioning keyboard/mouse, please enlighten me

Motherboard : Asus Maximus VII Impact

Processor : Intel 4790k

That's totally normal for them to flicker while starting up, but (I'm sorry if I misunderstood) do they not work in Windows?

Once it gets passed the f2 screen, they just turn off, all lights, everything...cannot log into the password screen, doesn't work in safe mode either.  This is Windows 7 btw too

Within the BIOS there should be a section for startup USB/Peripheral initialization. Default is usually "Partial", try changing it to "Full".

I can grab a screenshot of my BIOS settings...once I find my damn USB thumb that's around here somewhere >_>

I had a very similar problem recently, any USB peripheral worked on boot and in bios, but not in windows.  I had to use a PS/2 keyboard to install the USB 3.0 drivers for the motherboard, and after that everything worked fine.

Mystery is the source of all true science.
