I browsed around and haven't seen a thread like this so i thought i'd start one up!

If you work any kind of tech support you have a horror story or two generally consisting of such lack of understanding it goes beyond mind boggling!

So share these stories and lets all cringe and laugh together!

(or this thread is already being done and I look like an idiot)

I personally live in a small little town of very very outdoorsy old people attempting to use technology and sometimes the things I see actually hurt my brain.

keeping it short and sweet i'll just list some of the fun ones.

-Spend half an hour on the phone explaining that Obama doesn't dictate how many "pit-tures" a computer can hold

-multiple phone calls attempting to get a CD to work for a customer...only to have her bring in a floppy disk

-Customer installed a New HDD that wasn't working...He had literally just laid it inside the case

-Customers (yes with an S, this happens almost monthly) reboots entire pc when they want to open a new program

-Customers asking why their wireless internet isnt working, They only bought they router and have no ISP into the house

-Customer convinced that all HP printers are controlled by hackers and are sending him viruses

-A personal Favorite: Customer called almost weekly asking if we had set of the Hadron collider and telling us we shouldnt because we were going to destroy the world

A couple of years ago I was doing work experience as a tech at a local school. A few days in, the guy I was working with (let's call him Jim) an I had to re-image a room of computers. They were running XP at the time and we were imaging them with a windows 7 image and some programs. We were checking the BIOS of all the machines and found that they only had 2Gb of RAM, which was a bit odd cause all the other rooms had 4Gb. Then we found a computer in the room with 4Gb of RAM. Turn out all the computers except one of them had a stick of ram stolen from them. We took the all the computers to the tech room so nothing else could be stolen.

Not exactly a facepalm but it's one of the worst tech stories I have even though I live with my 50 year old parents who know nothing about tech.
