Installed new ssd now this?

FireofDestruction

So I got my new ssd on primeday( despite not many good deals) and got around to installing it yesterday but now the only thing it says is " reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key" 1. Why doesn't it just boot from the HDD which has win 7 and is in the data 0 port as well? I'm so confused here

Set your boot order in the BIOS to your Windows 7 Hard Drive at the top of your Storage Device list . Consider installing an OS on the SSD after to take advantage of it's speed.

you need to change your boot order in the bios. Its trying to boot from your new ssd, which sounds like its blank right now.

Couldn't I just move the os from the HDD to the ssd?

you can. use something like carbon copy, or other cloning software to take everything off the HDD and put it on the SSD. the only issue, is the SSD has to be the same size as the amount of data on your harddrive.

Is it bad that my dream setup only costs a few thousand not counting the obutto?

Some SSDs need to be formatted first before you can install windows to them.

No, the data has to be the same or lesser size.

It depends on the software you are using to clone as some can re-size the partitions if the used disk space is adequate.  Either way with an SSD it is highly advised you do a fresh install.

If you are using the same computer and wiping the other OS drive you do not need to get a new copy of Windows, just reinstall your original copy.  If it is an OEM where you did not receive the disks, Microsoft allows you to download versions based on your Windows version and product key.

You did but I read it as the physical disk size, hence my first answer for clarification as well.

You implied the SSD must match the amount of data exactly, when it doesn't. It can and should be larger.
