I'm in the process of a new gaming pc build. I know a little bit but not enough where i'm comfortable with making the final say for everything. i will be gaming a lot on it but i still have a xbox one i will be getting bigger games on. I wanna stay with a blue and black theme so if you have any changes please keep that in mind. Thank you.

this is what I have so far.

NZXT S340 Matte Black/Blue Steel ATX Mid Tower Case

ASRock Z97 Extreme6 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

EVGA 04G-P4-3975-KR GeForce GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0+ 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 SLI Support Graphics Card

CORSAIR HXi HX850i CP-9020073-NA 850W ATX12V / EPS12V 80 PLUS PLATINUM Certified Full Modular Power Supply

Intel Core i5-4460 Haswell Quad-Core 3.2GHz LGA 1150 BX80646I54460 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4600

SAMSUNG 850 EVO MZ-75E250B/AM 2.5" 250GB SATA III 3-D Vertical Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

CORSAIR Dominator Platinum 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMD16GX3M2A1600C9

Western Digital Blue WD10EZEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

CORSAIR Hydro Series H110i GT H110i GT Water Cooler

If it's just gaming you don't need 16GB of RAM

You don't need a watercooler because you have a non OC CPU which don't get hot so a stock cooler will do fine

That PSU is overkill a 600W or 550W will do fine

I would go for a 390 over a 970

                                                                                                                 Setup

CPU: i3 4160|Motherboard: MSI Z97 PC MATE|RAM: Kingston HyperX Blue 8GB(2x4GB)|GPU: Sapphire Nitro R9 380 4GB|PSU: Seasonic M12II EVO 620W Modular|Storage: 1TB WD Blue|Case: NZXT S340 Black|PCIe devices: TP-Link WDN4800| Montior: ASUS VE247H| Others: PS3/PS4

Get a different motherboard. Too overkill for a non-OC CPU

Try this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157512

is a non oc cpu ok or no?

yes and no. if you do not care for spending time to over clock it then it is fine. it will not do much for your gaming if you over clock your cpu. for you it should just be fine

Like Pcinacan said, but if you do desire to overclock then I'd recommend trading the motherboard for this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157506 as well grabbing a 4690k (The two total to about the same price as your original motherboard + CPU combo)

oh ok

In my build I put 16GB in there for the heck of it since you have the money for it and you still have money left over. I also put a 4690k and Z97 board in there as well as a good CPU cooler so you can overclock it.

What if i wanted to do video recording and editing too?

A 4690k and 980ti will do that fine but you may want the extra threads of a 4790k. Totally up to you.

If he's gaming @ 1080p , a GTX 980 Ti is overkill IMO. I already get pretty decent FPS in games with a GTX 970 @ 1440p

Yes. It would perform much better than the i5-4660 especially when gaming and in video editing.

the 980ti is almost double the price of a 970. can i just do two 970's or is that over kill again?

Well if you're gaming at 1080p what I would do is buy a 980 and a new monitor (like either a second monitor or a larger 1440p/4K one) with the money left over and not a 980ti.

Lol no...

He would need to overclock it like mad to see much of a difference.

i was doing the water cooling cause i thought it would help with it staying cooler while i game. i tend to game for 4-6 hrs on days i work and 8+ hrs when im off

Air cooling will still keep it cool. Water cooling is more dangerous, harder to keep clean and has no effect on a CPU where the mulitplier is locked.
