Speakers/sound system recommendations

Go to solution Solved by AnonymousGuy,

What I did was buy a home theater 5.1 system for my speakers (think it was around $200 or less), connect it to my desktop via SPDIF, and then when I care about audio quality I have either custom IEMs or my over the ear phones.

That's my recommendation...speakers and a good pair of headphones.  When I was substantially poorer I did Altec Lansing speakers with Audio Technica ATH-M50 headphones.  Still use the headphones at work.

Im looking for some speakers to add to my build but seeing how i know near to nothing about audio I decided to come here. Now im not looking for anything too powerful, its not a big room and im not going to be blasting music or games. Just some moderate use with games and movies at a low-medium noise level. I have quite a bit of room on my desk because its an L desk and i only have a monitor, keyboard and mose on it with the comuter on the floor. So in terms of size not small but not so big that it looks out of place. Im also not sure if im going to need a sound card to go along with this or if that's optional. Thanks for all your help
