So I was doing a check-up on my fans and I stopped them while they were spinning and noticed that they didn't spin up afterwards until I gave them a bit of a boost. Is that normal for GPU fans or does it mean faulty ones? Maybe a method of protecting themselves if anything gets in them?

Thats normal, but pls don't go touching moving GPU fans ;)

Oh okay, yeah, just wanted to make sure the slight buzz was the vrm which in fact it was. Was worried the fans might be contracting the heatsink but it seems I was probably wrong.

It's a way of protecting the motor it will start back up within 10 seconds usually.

Oh, okay. So no damage done to them? I stopped them by touching the center 2 or 3 times but they stayed stopped only once i believe.

EDIT: Does that only apply to ball bearings since my case fans (cheapo sleeves) don't stay stopped.

More like electrical buzz. That seems normal tho. I mean, current does pass through there.

Most good quality fans will do that just don't' go stabbing something into the moving fan blades and it's good.

For the buzzing sound as others have said it seems like it's coil whine on the GPU.

Considering I can only hear it with my head inside the case, I'm inclined to label it as a non-issue.

Btw, fans won't break cause of me stopping them now right? I know it's a dumb question but I'm kinda scared of that. I rebooted twice and everything started up normally.

I wouldn't go holding them in place permanently but just temporarily it shouldn't hurt a thing.

Stopped them by holding my finger next to the center to avoid bending the blades and only for about 5-10 secs for 2 times. Haven't touched them before and don't intend to.

Nothing to worry about your good as long as they keep spinning.

They seem to be spinning atm as I don't notice anything abnormal while watching youtube (temps are same as before)

So I just asked a friend about this seeing as last night it was late, is it true that since the fans are Brushless it's unlikely for anything to happen to them?

Yes it will be fine nothing to worry about.

It seems like it. I examined them closely today (when off lol) and nothing seemed to have broken off, nothing seems different about em. Not touching them in the future however. Unlike the dry, rattling case fan which I don't mind losing, the GPU fans are a lot more valuable. But it doesn't seem to have caused damage to the motor.
