Well LA Noire is locked at 30 fps anyway -- unlocking it basically breaks everything.

Otherwise, I would say that your 270X is likely to be your weak link before your 8320 in games of any age. In games released before 2011 your CPU should be able to cope with regardless of how many cores they want.

those arent particularly graphics intensive games, youll be fine. back when i was running my 8320 OCed i never ran into any issues

I'll never quite understand why people seem to think the CPU does the graphics rendering instead of the GPU. You know, the one with graphics in the name.

I have a 270 (overclocked) And I can run black ops 2 at ultra settings with 8x msaa with 100+ fps

My cpu is fx 6300. So you should be able to play those older cods with good framerates too.

Dont worry about the cpu, it WONT bottleneck in those old games

EDIT: And just because the cores are worser compared to intel, doesnt mean they are bad. Just dont worry about your cpu

When you are playing a game without v-sync there's basically a maximum framerate your CPU can handle, and a maximum framerate your GPU can handle. A "bottleneck" just means "which is these you hit first" I am pretty sure that in the case of an FX 8320 and an R9 270X, the 270X will be bottlenecking you before the 8320.

That's what I mean by "the weak link".

Just try them out. 1 of the games you listed is cod 4. My garbage laptop with an intel pentium b970 @2.3GHz and intel hd 2000 graphics can run that game at ultra settings ~45 fps. Dont worry about your setup, its pretty good. You'll play any old game at ultra settings with atleast 60 fps

Dude, it'll be fine. You seem to be worrying a lot about this (if you're a first time builder, then fair enough).

Whilst the FX series of AMD chips won't be so good in newer titles (as I found out with my FX-6300), it should be fine on older ones. None of those games call out to me as particularly CPU demanding, so you'll be absolutely fine.

For the best future performance, get an Intel i3 or i5. In older titles that use DX9, a Pentium G3258 (given that you overclock the nuts off it) would keep up with the 4690K and 4790K due to those titles utilising very few threads.

Will it be playable at max settings?

On a 270X? Unlikely. That card was never designed for that. It depends on the age of the game, but in general no you will not be able to play at max settings at a reasonable framerate on a low end card unless you're playing at like 720p or something.

False. I have a r9 270 and I am able to play most games at high/ultra settings. Even new games like the witcher 3 which I play on high/ultra settings

At what resolution? Because you're claiming your 270 is performing 20fps better than a 290X in most benchmarks of that game, which is highly implausible.

Unless for you "a reasonable framerate" means 30 or something? I consider 60 to be reasonable.

I play at 1680x1050, with everything on ultra, except for grass density and foiliage distant on high, and hairworks off. My fps is ~45 but in cutscenes its most of the times 60

So not 1080p, not max settings and nowhere near 60 fps apart from cutscenes.

I said high/ultra. Never said max settings. But it runs pretty smooth so I am happy with it
